Speculation: 2011 BMW 8-Series
Source: http://globalmotors.net/rendered-spe...ies/#more-6446
BMW is rumored to have plans to revive the 8-Series name for a potential “four-door coupe,” much like the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. New 8-series would compete closely with the new Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera. Beginning of the year BMW placed Gerhard Richter in charge of development of its new Gran Turismo model, which is based on the popular CS concept car. New model will be called either simly GT, short for Gran Turismo or 8-series. Most likely the car will get the previous 8-series models name so that BMW can position it as the highest, most luxurious and expensive model. This new GT/8-series model will be the first non M-series car to be built by the performance division. BMW M President, Herr Willisch said that the CS “It’s a car that doesn’t have any resemblance to the other cars built by BMW AG, so it was decided to give the project to us.” New 8-series will have a larger wheelbase and sportier chassis than the 7-series, though it will be based on the underpinnings of the new 2009 7-series. Expected engines will be a V8 twin turbo engine or a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12. New 8-series will be introduced most likely in 2010 as a 2011 year model. Still a long time to go with lots of spy shots and rumors. As BMW has not started the testing of the new 8-series we don’t have any spy shots yet, what we have are two artist renderings of the new 8-series. |

What a crappy attempt at rendering. It's a poor mix between the F01 and the Concept CS.
Wait for the real deal when it comes out.

I really wish they would make a new version of the e31, IMO the best BMW built. But at the same time I want it to be frozen in history as one of those untouched legends.
Looking forward to spy shots for sure.

I'd say the 6-Series covers the SL. Both are coupe/convertible, V8s (excluding AMG, M).

Ok lets clear this up. I have seen the CS in Body on White at Dingolfing and at the M studio. This new "8" will be the CS, the interior will be different and closer to the 7er. I was told that there was just no way they could make the interior work in a production car.
This is it.

I had a 850 csi V12 ///M, converted by M motor sport from Auto to MT 6, cost $256k some 15 years ago when the 2 edition came out. Damn nice car. Kept it for 9 years, sold it for $70k. 12 spark plug leads and one new distributor cap cost me $2k. Had 14000 klm on the clock.
This this new 8 series is Fugly.

Just another pig to me. Too big and although it'll have plenty of power, its weight and size is sure to negate the benefit. It'll be very thirsty, quite luxourious, and easily over $100K. Is there much of a market for this thing? (anywhere other than Monaco and parts of the Middle East)

I don't think my garage would be long enough to fit it in.
