New Owner's Track Drive 2021

Has anybody done this track drive offer? I saw that this started in 2020 but the screenshot indicates that it's been extended to 2021. Has anybody bought a new BMW in 2021 that was able to sign up for this? What was your experience like? From the looks of the promo video it seems like basically the same as the performance center delivery, except you don't take delivery of the vehicle at the event and it's being offered in Thermal, CA too.

Curious where you got that. When I did my PCD for my 2021 X7 M50i, in Feb 2021, I asked about that track drive promotion, but they said that promotion ended at the end of CY2020.

ha, of course my recent purchase was 12/30/2020. Oh well, I saved a bit more than $299x2x0.85 I suppose. Something tells me these experiences aren't worth traveling for like a full day event may be, but cool if you're close.

2020 purchases should've come with this too, and I think it was much more advertised in 2020 than 2021. Same reason why I didn't travel to SC to do a PCD since it isn't really worth flying all the way out there but I do live two hours away from the Thermal center so I could drive out there and combine it with a resort stay in Palm Springs.

New Owners Track Drive Experience

Scheduled my complimentary track drive for the 28th in SC. Anyone else done this? How was it? Sounds pretty fun, for free.

Is that the instruction component of the M Driver's Package, or something else?

I called and asked about this. It's the same thing as the performance center delivery experience. You get a factory tour, get to drive X5 off-road, and get some driving drills (stopping drills, oversteering, autocross).

I did the New Owner Track Drive 2 weeks ago. I purchased a new BMW in June 2020. When I called the Performance Center, I was told you have 1 year from your purchase date to schedule the drive. The actual session can be outside of the 1 year window.

The 2 hour session started at 8am with a short classroom discussion. We then drove X5's around the off-road course. For this portion, my guest and I rode together and we both got an opportunity to drive. We then got to drive various BMW models on a small portion of the Performance Center Track. The online information suggested my guest and I would ride together and swap every few laps. I was pleasantly surprised when we each were given our own cars to drive. After 3 laps in each car, we would stop and move to the next car. We drove a Z4, M2CS, M440i, M550i and an X3M Comp. We were reminded often to "drive it like NYC - Not Your Car".

The factory tour was NOT part of our New Owner Track Drive. We did schedule a factory tour on our own for the afternoon. It's been reduced to a 1 hour tour due to COVID. There are several tours throughout each day. They recommend buying tickets in advance as some time slots fill up.

It was a 4 hour drive for us. I feel it was well worth it and plan to schedule a day of M-School soon.

I've done a couple of these. Various forms of this come with your M car. The best way to take advantage of this offer is to use it as credit towards BMW M School, either the 1 or 2 day. I've done both, and the 2 Day is the way to go since you get to do much more.

Lessons include:

Drifting
Cornering
Braking
Small Timed Course
Large Track Course

No lame drag racing... that's for corporate retreats for people who've never gone over 85 in their cars.

New Owners Track drive

I was able to attend the New Owners Track drive today at the Performance Center in SC. It Is kind of an abbreviated Performance School. Only a couple hours but they pack in a lot of stuff. Got to go on their off-roading course in the X5's, that was awesome. Amazing what those vehicles can do and take. Also got to hit a short track and experience different cars. I was able to drive the M2, G82, M5 and M8. No M3 today but I figured the G82 would be close enough. Amazing cars! The M2 was just kinda, "eh". Didn't do anything for me. Kinda Honda Civic(ish). Not particularly fast, not particularly nice, just blah. IMO. G82 was a blast. Obviously. The M8 was just kinda ok as well. Not very impressed. The one that I really came away smiling at was the M5. What a freaking beast. So much car, so much luxury, so much everything! After we drove on our short track the instructor did a hot lap around the whole track in the M5. Holy crap! Hang on! I'm still amazed at what a stock M car is capable of. Too fun! The whole experience is first class! Check it out if you are able.

We did this recently as the wife had bought her new M240ix. I've done several (real) M-car events in both SC and CA, so it was all BTDT for me, but she had a blast. I too was really impressed with the M5. If I hadn't just spent a gizzillion dollars on the M4, I'd likely get one of those.
