Ladies and Gentlemen, Mesdames et messieurs, Meine Damen und Herren... 300,000 miles

Would have hit the mark last year except I have been teleworking since March 2020.

The judges are conferring on whether to accept the 000.3 or if 000.0 is required.

Probably around $9k. That would cover the normal maintenance (oil, tires, brakes, rotors, plugs, struts, bushings, rear wheel bearings, etc) plus 1 water pump / thermostat, 1 alternator and 1 starter and replacing the original CCC with a CiC. Except for 1 oil change, it's only had BMW oil in it.

Did you buy it new?

I brought mines at 67k miles in 2019 put about $2k into it last year for oil leak repairs (VCG, OPG) and suspension stuff like thrust arm bushings.

Bought it in 2010 w/ 33k miles on it from BMW of Asheville. A lady traded it in on a brand new bright red X3 and it had sat on the lot for several months. They knocked several many thousand off of it, made it a CPO w/ 100k warranties and gave me a good price for my oil guzzling A4.

That’s what I was thinking too.

I’ve almost certainly over-maintained my car, but I’ve put about $6-7k USD into over 3.5 years! That said, I’ve knocked off a lot of things that shouldn’t need to be done again or for a long long time.

Congrats Greyfox .

Agreed!

I feel supremely stupid though. I buy 90% of my stuff from FCP, but for reasons I can’t explain (okay, I can: FCP was more expensive and I was being cheap) I bought my shocks and front control arms from RockAuto like a true idiot. In hindsight that was THE definition of penny wise, pound foolish.

There are a few situations where you still win with the Rockauto move. Car gets totaled or you sell it for example. Or FCP goes out of business. Or they reverse their policy.

Lovin’ the glass-half-full perspective. True. I do plan on purchasing another E90 and possibly transferring some of my better parts over, but that’ll probably in a few years at least.

The more I think about it the more I truly do not understand how they can afford to have that policy. I would love to see their books.

A small percentage of people take advantage of it is my guess. From a marketing perspective it’s a great campaign.

I got some aftermarket Vaico jack pads on Rock, cheapest in the world (and E92 is a pita, E90 is not a PITA and more sources). Decided to get 4+1 that I needed. Then I found 2 BMW OE in the basement, DOH!

Same with my hood and trunk struts, ECS was the best and then my TPMS Bavauto was. It really depends on the part. Dealer damaged my car? I told FCP the dealer did it, and they won't admit it (at the time), is it still covered? They said yes, it is!

I bought my 2007 in 2010 CPO’d as well. Only at a mere 235k miles at the moment . Replaced many of the same parts you mentioned above. Still runs great!

Thanks

And thanks to all the other posters. I would of hit this probably a year ago, but I have literally been teleworking since last March and have only gone to work 3x since then.

It's getting ready to be pulled into the garage and have several things done like new plugs, oil change, transmission fluid change and replacing the rear lower center suspension bushings with Strongflex ones.

You will LOVE the feel of the rearend when you’re done putting those bushes in. No more soggy bottom.

Tires

Curious what tires you high mileage guys prefer? My rear PS2s only lasted about 16k miles before replacing and then I went through Hankook Ventus V12s at about the same rate. Each time it was the inside edges from I guessing the negative camber on my sport 330i (alignment shop has maxed out the camber cam - ~-1.5 degrees).

I'm currently on PS4s, but rarely drive it since it was getting a little pricey for annual rear tire replacements.

I’ve heard split opinions on replacing rear suspension components (other than shocks). I think Efthreeoh is on original components back there still, if memory serves me right.

I’m just curious if you’d suggest replacing anything else at higher mileages, and am also curious whether Greyfox is still on original rear components (except shocks)?

I’ve inspected my rear control arms a few times now and as far as I can tell everything seems pretty tight, even at 200k miles .

talisman311 Wow. Yeah, that would get expensive! I just put on DWS06 Plus’ and they’re good. Clearly not in the same league or category as PS4s, but if you’re not driving your car because tires are costing you too much... maybe time to switch tires
