Low balled: Am I crazy?

Selling my baby, and I’ve been getting lots of local interest

Problem is, they mostly call and say $5000. When I say I’m flexible but not that flexible they hang up.

The car runs and pulls great. I don’t get it.

Underpowered beaters go for $5k on car lots all the time.
Am I over valuing??
Am I nuts?

I think ppl see it is sitting on coil overs and automatically assume it's a beater.

Unfortunately $5k is about what most of these are going for now a days. Check your local FB marketplace, I get it's in great shape but unless they're a real enthusiast and understand the importance of maintenance on these cars, it's not gonna happen.

Not to mention I see rough cold start issues, chances are it's injectors and well we all know how expensive that is, most won't pay even $6k for a car that most likely needs $1200 in parts the moment they buy it.

Pulls hard and coil springs reads as beat on and attracts lowball offers.

Make a counter offer. If they offer $5K, they probably want to buy it a $6K, which considering what it needs, is probably more than a fair price.

Also, just to get a warm fuzzy feeling, take it to Carmax and see what they'll give you for it.

Looks like you've taken care of it, but the average E90 buyer these days is not an enthusiast.

You say that the average un-powered car goes for $5k. That is because it doesn't require the maintenance and expense of the N54. Case in point - changing the oil pan gasket on a generic beater doesn't involve raising the engine and dropping the subframe. I would pay the same for a honda civic with 128k miles, no worries.

Take the $5K and run.

The car is worth what you are asking for maybe more but the problem is that anyone looking at these cars is probably thinking maintenance costs. They start reading the prices on some of these maintenance items and they already dont want to pay what this car is worth anymore.

best to make it "stock looking", remember buyers can and will pick your car apart. You can hold for the right price, but that could take awhile. Some times it takes 6 months.

The issue is that it isn’t a super desirable spec. E90s only make sense to buy for enthusiasts who love these cars. To your average joe, it won’t be a rewarding experience bc of the maintenance costs. Enthusiasts would rather have a sport pack or m sport car in a different color. That’s my $.02 anyway. Good luck!

Edit: just read the ad and saw it needs oil pan gasket and had a rough idle cold. $5k is a fair offer IMO.

Looking

Here’s my .02
I recently purchased a 3 series for my son, and am looking for one for my wife. I’ve passed on every single vehicle that was lowered. Personally, I prefer a stock look and don’t care for the ride quality of aftermarket springs....but I’m an old guy.
There are more non enthusiasts than enthusiasts in the market for a car. You would broaden your market by putting it back on stock springs.

Raise that thing up to a responsible ride height. I wouldn't pay $5k for it looking like that. Now, your profile and the work you've done certainly read as responsible, but at first glance slammed is not appealing.

Sad to say but these just aren't worth a lot right now. They are at the bottom or near bottom of the depreciation curve.

Love that it's manual tho!

I’m going to say that the market seems to vary A LOT for these cars, I don’t think I’d find any 6 mts in my area for 5-7k. Wish you were closer and not on the other coast. I probably should think about getting mine from the outside of my area when I finally decide to get a 335i.

I think the main issue that people have with the looks of the car is the wheels and not how low it is.. those were never bmws best design that's for sure. I'd see if you can change them for cheap I think it would help it sell a lot aswell as raising it some

Totally within fair market value for a 335Xi in “fair condition,” which is what buyers are viewing the car as, given the rough idle on cold start.

Yeah a rough idle is a no go for me, Im imagining dealing with a problem from the get go. You might be honest and it might just be a "it idles oddly until it gets some temp" but lets be honest, we have all seen the jokes.

To people looking "rough idle cold start" = likely near death.

Not really, to most buyers (not enthusiasts) modded cars are worth less money. A 10+ year old N54 powered BMW is not worth much to the average person, but more to enthusiasts.

I won't take less than $7000 for it I don't care what the others are selling for
You tell me what car can you get for $5000 that could replace that car.
And Coilovers aren't a problem to %80 of the people that want a 6speed car
I don't understand why people try to call a low number on the 335i when it's so much better than a lot of cars out there
