Unable to order 2021 M5

I been talking to different dealers about ordering a new 2021 M5 comp since my lease will be up in August. One dealer told me that you can no longer order 2021 M5 this year. Says that you have to wait til end of year to order 2022. Any truth to this? Or are they pulling my leg.
Thanks

Probably since they are starting to build 2022 very soon.

Yes but I would not think they would cease production and ordering for 6 months because of a model year change. I doubt the changes between 2021 and 2022 will be significant, probably software if anything.

I think dealers can do a pull ahead 3-4 months so if you find one in the country that meets your specs, they might be able to make it happen sooner than August.

I think production on 2022 starts in July (could be off) so maybe they are simply out of custom allocations for May/June for 2021s. Not uncommon.

There is no such thing as pull ahead for BMW

Chip shortage hitting 5 series especially hard as even 530/540/550 slots are scarce

So safe to say that they make even lower numbers of the M5 CS thus making it even more limited?

So when a dealer is telling me they can do 3-4 months pull ahead, are they just lying to me? Or are they just saying they can do a pull ahead when in effect they are just buying me out of my lease?

I believe it to be a function of your current lease buyout vs. current market value. Plain and simple. If the dealer can arb a few bucks, they'll do it and put you in a new car. Id rely on Next Levels response to this question. He is in the business. Im just the dumb consumer.

If you’re trying to order you’re going to be getting a 22 regardless because of part shortages and delayed allocations.

Otherwise look for a 21 on a dealer lot and go from there. Good luck!

I just put a deposit down 10 days ago for a 2021 & the dealer told me most likely will be MY22.

I had a 21 allocation and BMW denied Individual Color so I'll be going with a 22' when allocations are available.

Still debating between several Individual Colors.

I was in this same situation when I ordered my current 19' M5C. IIRC, I received an allocation in June, it went into production in July and received it in September.

My educated guess is late May or June for allocations and production possibly in July.

This may change based on the supply-side issues the auto industry is currently experiencing.
