Handling in the wet is surpisingly good?
I did 3 tests drives in the M3 before I bought it.
The 3rd I made sure was in the wet and the tyres were slipping every where I gave it some welly to see what it was liek in the rain dont normally drive like this). Today I went out for the 1st time in the rain and the car seem so much better than the test drive I did - it really was very good (I come from an m140i which just wanted to slide when you gave it a bit of gas! The only thing I can put it down to the tyres, the test car had P0s on them but luckily mine came with the PS4s' I never done a comparison of them before but can they really be this much better? |

Did you take the same roads in all of these comparison tests?
Different road surfaces offer different grip in the wet, along amount of "rubber" tires have laid down on the road and anything that might have spilled on it (oil, coolant, other fluids) over the years. It's hard to compare two different roads in the wet. |

I just wanted to open a new thread, so thanks for opening it
I have the Pirelli's and I was going to ask you guys here who have Pirelli's or Michelin what your experiences are. At the moment its very rainy here in switzerland, and jesus...the car has no grip at all, the rear instantly comes when just hitting a little the accelerator, even in 4th gear. I know it's a PS monster but still, these tyres are rubbish in rain... Does anyone feel the same? Do people really have that good grip with the Michelin ? |

From what I hear the Michelins perform great in the wet but the P0's are just above average.
However, both excellent in dry conditions. In my opinion the PS4S are the best tire in this segment. Had them on my F82 , amazing in every way. Perfect in both dry/wet , low noise, look great with the velvet sidewall, & they grip right away, as long as temps aren't super low. Can't speak on the Pirellis from personal experience. I've only ran Super Sports & PS4S on mine.

Most tires need about 500 miles to break in before you get full traction.

PS4s is in addition the better tyre, in the rain its the best you can get. Had a trip this morning about 400km in the wet, no issues. P0 is a little more tricky. I changed from the standard 825 rims with P0 to Performance M1000 20/21“ with PS4s.

I won the tyre lottery too and landed ps4's
Driven through downpours today in NE UK, so pretty chilly too, no issues at all. In fact the car was really planted. |

Can't speak for the G8X cars but my M340i came with Pirelli's they were terrible in the rain. I switched to Michelins PS4S's and it was night and day. Grip galore in the rain...

Anyone succeed in having the dealer swap the tires before delivery? Or atleast give a discount or something. Amazing a $100,000 car with $9,000 brakes and they give you crap tires lol. It should only be PS4s or PC2s..

500 miles to break in a street tire? Interesting OP; if you want all weather grip on the street for 90% of driving circumstances and a tiny penalty for all out dry grip; pick up a set of Continental DWS 06 Extreme Performance all-seasons. DWS 06 are PHENOMENAL in the wet!!!!! |

I luckily got the michelins and have been very surprised how well the tires grip in the wet. Even with DSC totally off you have to provoke it to slide. I imagine the cooler temperatures where you are play a role, but it sounds like others have had issues with the pirellis as well I thought most of the traction difference compared to the F8X was the gentler torque curve, but sounds like that's only half the story

I have heard that the M1000 are forged and actually lighter than standard wheels, but don't know if that is true because they have a lot of metal going on (look great though )?! But they should offer greater level of performance since they are 285 and 295? |

These were not the same roads and same conditions etc...BUT...
I remember plnating my foot in th ep0's and the traction light was on and off liek a yoyo. in the ps4's it really seems like a completely different tyre in the wet. Im not a pro driver or even close but the difference was very very noticeable. I will how ever wait for a bit of rain and drive the same piece of road to make sure I am not going crazy, but I really to beleive most of it was down to the tyres - I just didnt expect tha tmuch of a difference TBH. |

I would spec the car like this (at least from the outside and with the full carbon trim and with the BMW performance suspension, but for me the full leather is a must and I hate the black BMW interiors, so dull and boring!), but I was worried that the ride would be to harsh on the M1000 20/21“ wheel setup! |

I was very disappointed to receive the Pirelli's on my new M3 MT. It seems as if all the earlier cars were getting Michelin Sport, now it's a crap shoot. I think I've even seen Conti's on rare occasions. The other thing is as careful as BMW is regarding safety and handling, they seem to keep the same tire sticker on the door jamb for all tires. Mine said 32/34, which is probably the Michelin spec, I double checked with my service advisor who said to use at least 36/40 on the Pirelli's, NEVER go down to 32.

Anyone know the price difference between the two tires if you were to order them.
I've always used Michelin's or Toyo R888 on track but ended up with PZero's here and I don't do a lot of miles so stuck with them until I buy a winter tire / all season |
