Steering wheel cleaner
I've done quite a bit of searching and reading, but find inconsistent and conflicting posts about what works, so I figured I'd ask directly.
I'd like to find a cleaner, specifically for the steering wheel, which restores the supple, soft, *matte*, *like new* feel of the steering wheel the first day you pick it up from the dealer. I've seen lots of cleaners that leave a greasy, shiny residue, but the steering wheel is for me the thing I am most anal about on the car, as I feel it in my hands the entire time I drive. My car is ~8mo old, and I've been wiping/rubbing it down with a wet microfiber and that seems to help a little, but I can tell it's already losing some of it's original supple quality. In lieu of buying a new steering wheel entirely, I wanted to see if anyone had first hand experience using a cleaner and getting the desired result, preferably from someone who is also anal about that brand new steering wheel feel and is discerning about cleaners. Thanks for any help!

It's wrapped in leather, so think leather cleaner.
I've had great luck with Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner/ Conditioner kit on restoring a used interior that I put in my 128. Check this out... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FLBFV5K...roduct_details It doesn't leave a greasy residue, smells nice, and will leave you with the matte look you're going for.

I had used the Chemical Guys products in the past to limited success, especially with the wheel on my E93. I recently switched to Gyeon leather cleaner and it is fantastic on my E93 and truly brought it back to the matte finish that I had only seen in pictures. On my older car I used the strong, but would likely dilute it for my F90.

I've had good success with Dodo Juice Supernatural Leather Cleaner. Definitely leaves a matte finish.

+1 to Zaino products. I love their leather products and they give exactly that protection without being super shiny.

Let's just say my car doesn't get dirty, and my neighbors think I've lost my mind

I use saddle soap, really cheap and really effective, it’s quite an aggressive clean so it shouldn’t be done very often and use a leather conditioner afterwards. The brand I use is Pears, £0.99 a bar and lasts for ages.

Glad I saw this thread. I was about to make a duplicate post but my main concern is not "washing out" the colors on the stitching. I would love to clean and condition the leather on my steering wheel but I'm a little paranoid about that tri-color stitching. That and also not leaving a greasy feel which has already been mentioned. I may have to pick up some Zaino products. I used to use Zaino religiously on my domestic sports cars. It's really good stuff, especially the glass polish for removing water spots.

I get and use Adam's Polishes products. Inside and out they have consistent and extremely good products. Not to mention after an application it "stays" very long. Look specifically for the leather dressing cleaner I have in this photo (middle small bottle).

I just received a bottle of Leather Care from Nextzett and it has really good reviews. Will be trying it soon. It has a very different smell. It's a light smell and not that fake leather scent. Should be good stuff...
...update: I've tried several different leather products and concluded that the Zaino cleaner and conditioner are the best, the conditioner is just the right consistency for the leather to absorb and it brings out the perfect color from the leather and perfect matte finish and it's never greasy. The Chemical Guys conditioner is very good also but its a little too thick for my liking but it's impressive enough that I can give it runner up! Last edited by vanos84; 11-08-2021 at 07:18 PM.. |

https://www.swissvaxaustralia.com/co...eather-sealant Get these and you won't go wrong. It's pricey but well worth it. And pretty much for all your interior leather areas not just the steering. Clean using the cleaner and use the leather glaze to protect it in new condition. Don't use the leather milk provided in the cleaning kit until your leather is old (>3 years) P.S. that's the Australian Swissvax website, the US prices will def be cheaper |

Colour Lock
I know what you are struggling with, you want the wheel to go back to matte. The best thing for this task is Colour Lock Strong (Not Mild) applied/scrubbed with Colour Lock Brush a few times, followed by Gyeon Mild Leather Cleaner with Microfiber, then followed by Nanolex leather and textile sealant

I use Swissvax leather kit. The most important component is the leather brush.
It cleans and dries to a matte finish every time. |
