Steering wheel exhaust buttons

So I've been on a path to add exhaust valve controls to my steering wheel.

After waiting months (thanks to Aus post) for my custom etched backlit buttons to arrive I began concepting the design last night.

The mounting clips need a little more work as I had to warm them up to shape them so they melted a little, luckily I have hundreds of those clips. The biggest issue though is sourcing around 6v to tap the button led wires onto.

Does anyone know where I can find a steering wheel control pack wiring diagram? I spent ages last night metering looking for any output and only found a 4v line which was intermittent. I also managed to pop the 5amp fuse which triggers the radiator fan, wipers and ac display/steering wheel controls to shut off, I eventually found the fuse in the FEM but would rather avoid doing this again.

For those interested in how I'm controlling the aftermarket exhaust valve, I just soldered the buttons onto the key fob that came with the the valve and then tucked the circuit down inside of the steering wheel trim.

Never mind, the red wire (second pin from the right) of the main controller pack has 10-12v which I can wire tap.

Weirdly you have to have the plug actually plugged in before the ECU provides power otherwise it cuts off the supply.

Thats a heck of a modification, well done and cool stuff.
Here I use a plug-in module solution from Peem via the OBD port and switching the exhaust flaps with the RESET button at the steering wheel. Not as spectacular as your mod, but is doing its purpose.

Nice! I have an aftermarket valve so there's no control of it via ecu unfortunately.

However I just ordered a new valve from the factory who manufacture them for the MPE so hopefully it'll be better quality! Just need to program it to work with my receiver

Looks great! Where did you get your steering wheel wrap? I like that it is connected at the bottom for a smooth look.

It's a complete upholstery job, that's just how they wrap the leather onto the steering wheel frame.

I gave the frame to London Steering Wheels (on instagram) to sort with a design drawn out

Wow now that’s what you call a custom wheel, great problem solving skills and the finished result looks stunning.
