License Plate Frame Thread

Figured it was about time for a good license plate frame thread. I enjoy collecting license plate frames. Not necessarily just cheap, black plastic white text, eBay ones. Factory license plate frames, vintage license plate frames, dealership license plate frames, vintage dealer license plate frames. Especially things that have gone out of production, like M-Technic, BMW Performance, etc. Vintage dealer frames are quite cool too, also collecting license plate frames from dealerships that are quite far away. Currently trying to figure out which license plate frame would suit my new, white E34. I'm thinking a BMW Portland one for now, because it was sold there new.

Here is what I have on my E90 right now, took me a while to track down actually. Period-correct BMW Performance Carbon Fiber license plate frame. After a few months of calling random dealers, checking inventory lists, finally found one in new condition. The yellow-text version of this plate is even more rare now a days.

What license plate frames do you guys run, if any? Anyone else a nerd like me and find collecting license plate frames interesting? Would actually be kind of cool if we set up a buy/sell/trade thread. Would be easy to get dealer-specific plates from other parts of the country/world, at least haha.

That looks really nice.
I've also been looking at vintage license plate holders from now defunct dealers for BMW.

When we bought my wife's buggy I got a deal on an M frame. The buggy is technically not a M but lowly M-Sport. It when on the rear as after 8 years the front still has the German plate on it. After 3-4 years the dam paint start chipping off. How hell does paint chip off when it is on the rear? Must be cause of the down drafts from driving so fast. I need to take it off, mask the M and repaint it. POS.

OE BMW Slimline in black all the way. Goes without saying but, plain no lettering whatsoever. It's got a roundel on the boot lid it doesn't need to say BMW OR M on the plate frame too.

Just a simple "The Ultimate Driving Machine". I have too much cf (is that possible?) on the rear so wanted to change it up a bit since everyone has the cf M or M Performance.

I feel you on that, I think that's a really solid choice. I do like the carbon fiber on the BMW Performance one, but it would be cool to have a solid black one. It only comes in the carbon fiber with the white or yellow text, and they're both discontinued for years now - actually almost 10 years I think.

Yeah same, I'm always looking at eBay trying to get some cool ones. Have you found anything cool?

I have an alma mater plate frame. It adds a splash of individuality without being obnoxious like bumper stickers, decals, etc.

I prefer the Future Classic Frame that IND offers. It comes with color matched screws.

It's a digital license plate, not a frame. Legal in all 50 but only distributed for CA and AZ…for now.

Wow. Money to burn, I thought, when I saw that $80 license plate frame. Then I saw the digital one- $900 and a monthly subscription. Holy sheet!

I was interested til I found out there's no override to turn it off. Now THAT would be worth it

My neighbor cut one for my E30 that's a play on "form over function", CNC'd out of an aluminum plate. I've requested one that says "if you're reading this you're losing" for the e92--should check up on that one.
