Coil and spark plug for an E92
Hey guys! This is my first post here. I have had a 2009 328 xi for about 2 years now. I've always just taken it to the mechanic whenever it breaks down but I'm getting tired of it because it's just so dang expensive. I've wanted to start learning about cars for a while so why not start now? A friend of mine plugged something into my car and told me my 6th cylinder was misfiring so we took out the coil and checked the plug and surprisingly enough, the coil needed to be changed. He knows nothing about german cars and well, I'm learning too and I wanted to know what recommendations you guys had for spark plugs and coils to put into my car. Thanks so much guys.

You came to the right place.
My advice is straight forward -- go to FCP Euro and buy their coil and plug set to replace all six. I believe for the N52 (your motor), all six should be swapped every 100k miles. Some others here might say 60k miles. Anyway, the set will run about $250, but includes a lifetime warranty. Considering BMW wants something like $130 for one coil, FCP is a better deal. Look for Youtube videos if you need help, but sounds like you got this. |

Hey Welcome!
Sounds like you guys are somewhat new to German car so Ill give you the best piece of advice I can... Use only Original Equipment Manufacturer parts when replacing parts on your car. It will save you soooooooo much heartache you will be so thankful, in other words NEVER EVER EVER USE AUTOZONE. The good news is FCP Euro carries exactly this, OEM parts for what turns out to be huge discounts compared to buying them from BMW. The best part about FCP Euro is they also give you a lifetime warranty on everything you buy there, and I mean everything including oil/filters etc. Youtube is a great source of information for step by step guides on the E9x platform but you can also ask questions here an tons of us should be able to give you ideas and guide you thru the process. Eventually I would suggest either purchasing, or putting together a BMW specific diagnostics scanner because normal OBDII code readers just don't have the ability to read the full trouble codes for these cars. You can buy a good scanner from Amazon or you can build a laptop to have INPA/ISTA+ and an OBDII cable which both will accomplish what you would need in the future. BTW you will need to gather a little bit of information before you go looking for parts for your car, most importantly is to figure out if your car has the N51 or N52 engines. As far as recommendations for spark plugs go, most early E90s use Bosch OEM plug with Bosch coil packs I believe at some point BMW switched to NGK plugs and Delphi coils but you can buy either option from FCP as long as you replace all of them at the same time, do not mix and match. Both are great and I'm not really sure they truly make a difference for a 328i, although many theorize the Delphi coils are longer lasting as compared to the Bosch. That being said I've personally run Bosch plugs and coils on my 2006 330i for over a decade and about 220K miles without any issues. |

As everyone else had said here, FCP Euro is an excellent site, if nothing else for finding the right parts for your car.
This kit has the Delphi coils and NGK plugs others have mentioned. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...2138616153kt12 The corresponding BMW part numbers are: Coils 12138616153 Spark Plugs 12120037663 Good luck! |

FCP Euro all the way. Did this one myself earlier this year, pretty easy project. Lots of "how to" You Tube videos out there. Replace the PCV valve while you are in there.
