E90 Trunk Wiring Harness

So my Reverse lights are out. Closer inspection has revealed one of the culprits to be severed wires in the trunk harness, specifically inside the rubber flex tubing. I've been to a few junkyards and have looked at a few E90's only to find all have the same issue.

The fix is pretty standard, rewiring the faulty cables but I'm wondering if anyone has some better solutions to prevent this from happening downstream. What can be done to improve the repair of such a bad design?
