taking a chance...
the lease on my 2019 m240i is up and so I just placed an order for the new m240i. although I like the pics I've seen of it, I feel like I'm taking a pretty big risk considering I haven't seen the car in person and of course I haven't driven it either. I'm less worried about not liking the looks of it, but what if it isn't that great to drive, especially compared to my current car? back in the days on the e46 and e90 this wasn't really a concern since bmw seemed to produce consistently good driving cars, but that's not the case these days. is anyone else concerned about this or is it just me?

It's not just you, I have this concern with every non M car.
To your point, my e90 328, basically a base model, was a blast to drive. No longer the case with the F and G generations. Definitely waiting for the reviews to come in before buying one. Look forward to yours!

I took same leap of faith mbla... I sold my 2018 230i 3 months ago and have new 230i on order as of 2 weeks ago. But still no allocation for it for my dealer. And the 230i body w/M Sports looks same to me as the M240. Plus I selected 19" M Style wheels with Performance tires that have 255/35 tires in the rear
But I assume will drive as good, if not better than Prior Generation.. sure hope!! G42 has more Techn. as standard equipment plus I feel a bolder & more modern look.. not a typical BMW clone so I'm semi-excited to drive something different

Also taking a leap of faith from a 2019 M240, to the new G42 M240.
I always liked the look of the F22, and despite a lot more angular design details, I'm very excited about the new car. I'm sure we'll all have some minor quibbles about the difference between generations in terms of looks, performance, features, etc. But overall, the more powerful B58, allowance for wider tires and features like blind spot detection and drive recorder far outweigh any concerns for me. I'm betting that BMW's experience with the F22's will make this car a winner! Now if my current Stealth Hitch will fit the G42, I will really be a happy camper (or cyclist).

The LSD and B58 alone should be a game changer...

I don't think this one will disappoint. Aside from the questionable rear light design, I think this version is just the right size being a bit longer, wider stance, and refreshed interior (about time!) and B58 engine. This is what I would of ordered next (coming from an E92) but needed a vehicle right away so went with a certified Mini Cooper S . Hope to get one of these eventually when I'm back in Canada.

I'm a wheelchair user that's Paralyzed and I drive with hand controls. At this point I buy most of my cars without driving them first. Most dealerships don't like to install portable handcontrols for safety reasons. So at best I have someone drive the car and tell me what they think or I just buy it.
With my m240i order I'm not to concerned it's from a brand I trust. I've enjoyed my 5 series and x1 so I'm not worried. I just hate that I'm never the first person to drive it. Some one needs to drive it to the installer for handcontrols for me. Nothing official but my salesman said late Nov/early Dec. I was the 3rd allocated car they had. It's currently in the production queue on the app. Last edited by Vudumonkey25; 10-04-2021 at 06:03 PM.. |

I also took the leap of faith and am getting an M240, it's replacing my 18' 340i M-Sport. I think the M240 looks great from most angles, the rear has some questionable design choices though. For being an "entry-level" BMW it really looks premium and the new interior is a huge improvement. I'm nervous about going to an automatic and AWD since I've been driving stick shifts and RWD for many years now, but I think I will be impressed with the car when it gets here next month.

Have you spent time in an M340i? You're gonna be fine. The G42 M240i is going to be twice the car the F22 was.

Should be good, similar to the 3 series as I ordered the G20 330, before it was available for test drive and production in early 2019. No issues.
Only thing to note would be to look at the all seasons/summer performance tire/wheel packages (Square/staggered setup), adaptive suspension for your daily/fun driving needs, and black shadowline trimming options for the appearance. |
