Ses Light coolant

I see coolant leaking from the res. I think there is a crack. I was doing high speeds for a long period of time. Perhaps that made it crack with heat. Can the SES light come on because of it? LOL bmw charges 200 for labor to switch it out.

No the SES won’t turn on because of that.

It’s not hard to change.
If you can do an oil change, you can change the reservoir.

If it would have over heated from the reservoir leaking, you would have seen
Low coolant warning
Reservoir would have exploded if kept driving
Yellow temp warning
And finally red temp warning.

The crack could have developed from the drive time if the reservoir was already weak.
Or
Possibly the water pump failed, triggered SES, stopped cooling and the pressure cracked the reservoir.

Have you re filled with coolant?

Did the SES turn on after the drive and after you noticed the leak?

Check the SES code and replace the reservoir.

Yes i noticed it after a drive. I turned it off then back on and opened the hood. Thats when I found out the leaking res. I see fluid build up under the headers. Its pooling up there

You need to pull codes to find the reason for the SES (Check Engine) light. The code will appear as Pnnnn, where the first n should be either 0 or 1, and the remaining 3 digits will describe the malfunction. P0 is a generic code that means the same thing on all cars that produce it, P1 is a unique code from the manufacturer of the vehicle that produced the code. Without the code, you have no idea why the SES light is on.

As for the crack, your high speeds should not have caused it. It was about to break, and would have eventually broken without the high speed run that you made. High speed is relative, going 80 on the freeway is not high speed to the car, the cops might have a different view but the car does not care. If you were doing 120 for several miles, that might be high speed from the car's perspective. If you are anywhere near obeying the law, you are not doing "high speed". Where I live, I can be the slowest car on the highway if I'm doing 75.

Check what codes you have and replace the reservoir.
