Feel like a broken record at this point but all the complaints on here (Me included) regarding BMW losing their way (FWD / enormous grills / crossovers / insert whatever you miss from 1990-2015 era here ) and how they don't know what they are doing anymore....
well.. BMW is laughing all the way to the bank. |

Well done BMW, they are indeed laughing all the way to the bank.
MB got spanked. Again. If any brand has lost its way, it's MB. Audi did better than MB but not as well as BMW. Tesla is in the Germans' rear view mirrors, from a market share point of view. |

People keep buying the de-contented models because the Roundel is more important than anything else. BMW doesn't care as long as they keep turning a profit. They have already said that they are planning to cut 25% of costs per vehicle to improve profitability, so don't expect options back as long as people keep buying.

YoY, this would be expected, no? There was a huge demand fall off last year whereas this year we're seeing a supply chain issue. Hope this is resolved in the next year so the numbers can keep growing.

These sales threads always amuse me because as enthusiasts we really don't care. The more cars BMW sells and the bigger the company they become, the more they water down their brand heritage.
On paper BMW is not supposed to sell as well as Mercedes, Audi, Lexus etc. A focused automaker producing the "ultimate driving machine" is not supposed to chase volume. But the fact that they do speaks volumes about the priorities of management over the past 15-20 years. Thank god for the M2.

Ok trying to buy an m340i in USA and they won't build one for me with HUD, park assist, or passenger lumbar support! BMW is full of it. They won't take my money.

Also sales are more postive and strong in US as compared to Asia. BMW should still prioritize what the US market wants and be loyal, don't just jump and shift to Asian markets asking big grille's.
I think BMW is smart, they have diversified which is fine because they use all that cash to still make engaging cars. M2 being the prime example and the new M3 not far behind (except the weird design). So overall everyone wins and BMW continues to thrive. So in my opinion they haven't forgotten the enthusiasts.

I hear what everyone is saying but I think the current M cars are the best M's they have built in the past 12 years (from what I read).
I'd like to see them make a better CS or CSL version but besides that, if someone wants a fwd 2 series and it helps fund great M cars, so be it. Like Porsche building cars and SUV's - caveat though, those are great vehicles but you pay $$$$ for them. But right now the liklihood of me buying another BMW is close to zero...so that probably speaks volumes and I should just shut-up. |

And I'll add, if we're assessing BMW as a luxury volume brand ... recent performance is middling, as absolute numbers don't tell the tale, market share over time does ... and there BMW is back to where it was in ~2005:

The main reason BMW sales has skyrocketed is mainly due to having the best supply chain but even that is catching up with BMW.
It has nothing to do with people liking the big grilles or fwd.[IMG]undefined[/IMG] |

Always an excuse why the company continues to do well instead of just admitting that people like their vehicles (….even if people here don't). Their supply chain is affected just as much as everybody else's.

Almost all car companies are selling everything they can build. So BMW's lead is either a reflection of its better inventory and usage of chips or its allocation of cars to the US vs. others parts of the world. Or MB's or Audi's position on these two issues.
