Quality Check and Final Assembly
I have a 230i Msport in Final Assembly and has been there for a few days...at least since last Thursday. When in "Quality Check" it took a few days too. It is tough to wait.
Ordered a 230i on 9/20. Entered production on 9/24. Specs: 230i M Sport Trim Alpine White Cognac SensaTec Dynamic Handling Package (blue calipers) Moonroof Delete No other options/packages (though the Convenience Pkg gets rolled in with M Sport trim) I've been updating in the 240 thread, along with other 230 orders, not sure why the model split thread. It took one month to go from ordering to get to "Ready for Transport"....just today, 10/19, my order is ready to go! Still a long wait to get on that boat to Baltimore. UPDATE: Just checked today (10/11) and my 230 status reports it has Entering Assembly Line. Like G42Bama, the previous steps were not noted with any login check. Last I checked yesterday it was still at Production Begins (which occurred on 9/24). I suspect it'll be all built by week's end. UPDATE 2: Checking today (10/12) and I'm being "Assembled" . Dealer sent me a screen shot of his data...shows production date of 10/11. That makes no sense and I'm assuming that's a default entry. UPDATE 3: Checking back in today (10/12) and my car has hit the "Quality Check" phase; booking right along. Also, another dealer update...he says the real wait from here is getting it shipped; about 2-4 weeks. His specific event reference was "finish production" too "getting on a boat". UPDATE 4: Checking today (10/14) my 230 moved to the Final Assembly step. UPDATE 5: Today's news (10/19), after 5 days in "Final Assembly" and now "Ready for Transport"! I guess the car is all built, checked and tweaked. UPDATE 6: Today, on 10/28, my car went through two steps and is now at "Dispatch from Factory." It was "Ready for Transport" since the 19th. This matches G42Bama's timing too. My car will be shipping to the Port of Baltimore. I am predicting that'll be well be about 10-14 days. UPDATE 7: Today on Nov 1st, my car moved to "In Transit." This was somewhat confirmed in that the assigned ship pull pierside to load up the cars after the ship was at anchor from Oct 27 until this morning. On its way soon! Dealer said arrival to the port (Baltimore) is Nov 12th. Checking today (11/7) confirms ship's schedule, though may be bout 6-10 hours behind. Hoping to still see it off the ship on the 12th, but may be into the weekend. UPDATE FINAL: Car was delivered to the dealer on 11/19. Weird how MyBMW tracked it at the end; went back to At the Port, never went back in Transit, and just showed up at the dealer. At any rate, I took delivery of the car yesterday on 11/22. Not a bad run all things considered. Did not have SiriusXM, nor wireless charger. Last edited by Dinosoar; 11-23-2021 at 10:09 PM.. |

Does anyone know the route the cars take from the central Mexico factory? I imagine it depends on final destination, as there are ports on the east and west coast of Mexico. |

Does anyone know if the cars are trucked or driven from the plant to the port?

There is a rail line at the factory so I guess its possible they are sent by rail to Altamira (port in Tampico). Otherwise its a 5 hour drive so they are loaded on a car carrier.

Do you know if our cars have actually been loaded on the ship like the BMW site would have us believe? According to a ship-tracking website I looked at the ship arrived 10/27 but it is still anchored outside of port?

I saw that. I am not sure if it was already "in port" and loaded and is waiting to depart or if it is waiting for a dock to load. We found out the ship name a day after it "arrived" to Altamira so I can't say if it has been at anchor the entire time.
Upon closer inspection it appears it spent all its time at "altamira anchor" so it was not "in port". Unless they were loaded in Veracruz our cars are not on the ship yet. Last edited by Good 4 2 reasons; 10-29-2021 at 02:19 PM.. Reason: more info |

These car carriers are loaded with thousands of cars. They could be waiting for a load of cars from a different manufacturer. With the current sea shipping crisis, I am sure getting a berth at a dock is a struggle. It seems most car carriers spend 18-48 hours loading at a dock so it might be waiting for its turn in Altamira.
