Known & Pending Option/Feature Removals Due to Supply Chain

Hey All -

Was curious as to what the board is seeing and or hearing as far as options that are getting pulled as a result of COVID supply chain craziness? My M240 build had a production date of 11/1/21 and, at the time of my order, it did not indicate that my Satellite/HD radio option would get deleted (I triple checked). However, now it is at the port waiting for transport and I have confirmed that the satellite/HD radio has been in fact deleted from my build due to supply chain issues (with a $350 credit; note that the car is pre-wired for satellite radio, which I guess means I can retrofit once there is some normalcy in the global supply chains). My car also has the passenger width/lumbar delete, but that was something that was listed on the original order, so no surprises there.

I do find it concerning though that some options seem to be "disappearing" on the fly. I also heard from my CA that touchscreens may not be available on later 2021 builds, but mine does have it. Interestingly enough, if you go to the BMWUSA website now and build a new M240, when you read the infotainment system description, there is now language at the bottom stating that some late 2021s may not have touchscreen. I am pretty sure that language wasn't there before.

Anyways, still very excited to receive the car, but wanted to see if anyone else has received any surprises during the build process. It is certainly frustrating, but it is the world we live in right now.

Cheers.

All I had removed was the passenger.

Mine has stayed the same.

- Passenger lumbar delete.
- Passenger width delete.
- Sirius XM and HD radio delete.

Awaiting production start date.

The only one that bugs me is HD radio. I just had a Porsche loaner with it (Bose) and it blew my P-cars non HD radio (also Bose) out of the water. Not even comparable. I would have like that on our M240i.

I totally get that. I equate it to HD and standard definition TV. You don't really notice how good HD is until you look back at a SD TV and you go holy crap, I used to watch TV like this.

Also, while very specific to my circumstances, I am bugged by the Satellite radio because I live up in the mountains outside of SLC and my 2015 X5 currently can receive about 10 radio stations here, 8 of which are total trash. Having satellite radio was a meaningful option to me (and i'm not much of a phone person and I always leave it in my bag, so it's not my default to run a lot of music apps through bluetooth/carplay). Hopefully the retrofit is easy, but I will need someone much smarter than me on this forum to figure it out and explain how to do it.

Different models are losing different things at different times for different production weeks. It’s all over the place and impossible to predict what will happen between the time you order and the time it goes into production.

FWIW, I didn’t lose anything in my M240i order. Even got the satellite and HD radio.

As for the touch screens, as best as I’ve gathered that has only hit the 3, 4, and X5/6/7 so far. Presumably different models use different parts and the others are unaffected. Of course nothing to say that won’t change.

Im assuming since this is a new model release, the 3s will lose touch before we do for now. Friend had a m440 come in with manual seats… no lumbar with slide bars and ratchets… I’d be livid

Yeah. I've heard all sorts of single-model losses. Sounds like the 4 GC is losing power seats, but possibly not the 4 coupe. Some of the SUVs lost the towing package. It's hard to keep up with, and the changes come and go with the supply chain.

I also figure that the G42 being new means they have parts lined up at least for a little while. But based on what I've read about the supply chain issues, it could get worse before it gets better.

Has your CA given you any indication what it will take to retrofit Satellite/HD radio in the future when they have the parts available? If BMW charges more than $350 I would be really annoyed, but not surprised.

I have an m240 on order (currently scheduled for production - supposed to be week 45 but I don't think that's happening) and I'll be supremely disappointed if I lose touchscreen and/or HK audio.

I don't know if I'd accept the car. This thread has me nervous.

same here mgokev... anything major other than losing Sirius/XM I may cancel my order. Sales rep told me there are 4 folks behind me that want an M240 but I am the only one with available build order; my build is week 48

I had the 3rd (and last) October allocation for an m240i from my dealer. Order placed October 25th. BMW Genius told me build was scheduled for week 44--which was last week--but the order still reads "scheduled for production." Maybe a supply-chain related slow down? Who knows.

I can live without touchscreen (I'm used to the iDrive controller in my 2016 F22). Loss of Satellite Radio would be a blow, as XM radio is the primary source of listening while I drive, but at least it will be prepped for later installation (presumably by dealers) and in the meantime I can use Apple CarPlay. But if they delete Harman-Kardon, I'd probably cancel my order.

I asked my CA and no clue on the retrofit. Based on past experiences, I have to believe it will cost more than the credit they give today, which is incredibly lame.

Interestingly enough, my dealer just received two M240s to sit in the showroom and my CA sent me the build sheets. Both had production start the week of 10/4 and one has satellite radio and the other has it deleted. What is really odd is that the one that has the satellite radio delete has wireless charging and WiFi hotspot option codes on the build sheet, both at no charge (n/c). I didn’t even know these two things were options, let alone no charge.

Does anyone know if Apple CarPlay works with the SiriusXM app? It will make it less of an issue if it does since they are canceling SiriusXM on us.

Yes, they are compatible. Of course, streaming from the app eats away at your cellular data allowance...

Per what I have seen on the other forums regarding this issue, the answer is yes, albeit a little clunky.

Thanks! Assume my car comes in with wireless charging this is a good thing. A clunky interface is better than nothing, first world problems...

I test drove one yesterday, it had Sirius XM but no wireless charger. Only item it was missing was the passenger lumbar/width adjustment.

There’s one they’re trying to sell me coming in and the spec sheet still has the SiriusXM still on it, I’m thinking it’s going to be hit or miss.

Exactly the same deletes from my build. I asked my rep how a retrofit XM/HD radio might work and he really didn't know. Assuming that this retrofit possibility existing in the past, does anyone have any experience with that process?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but Active (Radar) Cruise is no longer an option.

Assuming it's just the satellite tuner that's missing, it should be pretty much be plug and play to add. Maybe a bit of coding.
Satellite radio is pretty convenient to me, so I will probably add it when it becomes available.
I'd guess around $350. I'd like to see a free year subscription still thrown in, or a rebate from SiriusXM on the equipment.

In the meantime I'm digging through all my digital music and setting up playlists. A lot of music I have ignored for a while because satellite is so easy!

I just saw this. My car was suppose to be finished on the 29th but got pushed to now the 17th. Just today it entered production.

I really hope I do not lose active cruise control or any other options because of this.
