High pressure fuel pump confusion
Hi all, really need some help rebuilding my car. I blew up my original engine 2013 f30 335i n55 and am in the process of swapping in a used motor. The engine I found (also n55) is dropped in but I just noticed the hpfp isn't the same as what I had. I don't really know how to proceed. The confusion is because on the original engine the hpfp bolt holes do not align with the engine I put in. There also looks to be some sort of mounting plate that you would think you could remove but it feels locked onto the motor (blown one). Not sure if it matters but the engine came from a 335xi. Yes I know I have to swap the pans.
I'll attach some pictures to make this more clear. My question is if I should be looking to swap fuel pumps and adapter plates over OR Looking for a pump that fits my car I'm also unsure what is considered "better" or "newer" because I'm already balls deep in this project and just want to do it right the first time (and not keep redoing everything) Thanks to anyone that can give some guidance on this. Dorch website suggests there are some differences over the years, but maybe just harness? https://dorchengineering.com/product...-hpfp-upgrade/

if you bought an n55 out of an E series it's different.

Thanks all for the quick replies. I know the harness has changed some but the major issue is the bolt up pattern. I didn't want to have to take that cover off and play with the chains because I don't want to throw it out of timing. If I got it off an E can I just buy an e series fuel pump? I'm having a hard time finding much info on this caveat

And no the guy I bought the engine from removed the pump before selling it. Left the turbo, took the fuel pump. Makes no sense

I have tried rotating the blown engine and then to try backing off the plate and it won't release. All bolts removed it will come off like an inch from the vacuum pump before it gets stuck

you cannot use the e series fuel pump etc on the f series. it's just different. it uses the old style n54 setup. it's like a weird hybrid of the n54 and later n55.

Yeah you may want to pause and evaluate if you can even use the E series N55 in your F series without other changes (harness? DME/coding? etc). It might be more work/time/money than just sourcing a F series N55... not entirely sure.

So far the only really obvious differences are that I need to swap the oil pans (the xi being much different due to the front axle drive) and the fuel pump. I am swapping over my DME, am considering replacing injectors. Both the "old" and "new" engines say n55b30a so I know they are the same in that regard. I have a manual trans too so I'm swapping flywheels and what not but that's just nuts and bolts I already had to do it once when I replaced the trans.
So far this is really the only feedback and help I've gotten for this issue. Is there anything you guys can think of that may not be compatible? |

I have an f10 n55 engine that blew(looks like your third picture) and bought an n55 from a 2013 335xi (looks like your second picture)
Everything has been going smooth so far but swapping these over was not as easy as I thought it’d be.. any insight at all would be greatly appreciated |

I really wish people would check in w solution. My n55 is out of a 640i (going into f30) and so far I have swapped the oil pickup so I can use my old pan, I am in the same situation and think the best way to approach this is swapping the brake booster and fuel pump (though this requires holding the motor chain in place.
I'll try and message the autonwreckers as they took off the hpfp as well. |

So the solution is to remove the brake booster cover. Use a tool to hold the gear in place, remove center bolt and 3 surrounding. Bolts while keeping gear in place and replace the booster/ fuel pump assembly with the one from original motor. If more pictures are wanted I can accomedate.

How hard was it to remove the cover & how did you go about it? Did you have to replace it after? Did you use a special tool to hold it in place? |
