Interior: Need help Sensatec vs Vernasca Leather

Hi all... I have a M240 on order, but build is still in the Queue

I have ordered Blue exterior w/extended Shadowline plus Premium, HK Audio and M797 wheels w/Perf tires.

I selected Cranberra Beige Perforated Sensatec because I wanted a lighter color, but not as light as Oyster White. My last BMW (2018 230i) was black leather and kind of stark & dark. But I'm still concerned should I switch to leather??? but have to be black yet again. Guess I could get the Blue Contrast stitching but black is still black... ha-ha (don't want Red)

How is the present BMW perforated Sensatec vs the current Vernasca leather choice for comfort and endurance? I'm an older married adult w/older kids and no pets. Is the Sensatec ok or will I regret it down the road?? this is a purchase and not a lease... thanks a lot

and yes I know no lumbar available w/sensatec seats... for some strange reason

love to hear comments

Mixed comments on comfort and endurance.
In the US you can't get Adjustable Lumbar without leather, which I would not find acceptable.
So I would have to option leather.
Specifically Portimao Blue / Tacora Red Leather.

If cost isn't a favor, get the leather. Zero chance u will regret it. But there's a chance u may regret the sensatec.

If you want a lighter color just get the oyster. It would look really nice against the blue exterior.

thx SKP... I like the look of Oyster White, but i think way too light, plus too easy to get dirty??

My wife's 8 year old bmw has a very light tan leather interior and it still looks brand new after it's cleaned. Tho I just got her a new m340i which has black leather and now she likes it more because she doesn't have to worry about getting it dirty.

I just went thru a similar decision - between black and red leather on my new m240. Just emailed my salesperson today and switched to red after seeing it in person this morning. My car is also still just scheduled for production. The red leather is stunning in person. Have you seen it? If no, you should go look at it. Don't go by the pics online. Looks different in real life.

Btw I'm also probably a bit older than most people here. And I didn't want red leather at first because i thought it was too flashy. But it's actually quite luxurious looking. And I like nice things haha.

I went with the fake stuff, but I have an excitable dog and was concerned with durability. Plus I've had sensatec in my other two BMWs and I don't mind it. But I totally understand the appeal of the leather.

IMO the loss of the bolster and lumbar adjustments on the sensatec is a bigger deal to me.

Can you explain the difference between the appearance of the red leather in person vs pics?

In pictures it looks like a orangish red - even a bit pink (attaching a pic I took today from the 240). But in person it looks much darker - like a perfect burgundy color. Looks stunning in my opinion.

thx everyone... last night I read thru 4 pages of responses on the 3 series forum

Most stated the newer perforated Sensatec is as nice if not nicer & softer than Vernesca leather. In higher BMW models there are higher grades of leather but not in BMW 2 or 3/4 Series. I had Dakota in my 2018 230i, and felt that was OK but was fairly hard and not supple. And I hear Vernesca is similar to Dakota leather

I personally really like the sensatec (unpopular opinion, maybe) and definitely would have selected it myself if oyster sensatec was an option.

I've had two BMW's so far with the sensatec, I find it to be very comfortable with the added bonus of being worry-free and no maintenance, unlike real leather.

Looks wise, I don't really think you will notice much of a difference between the sensatec and vernasca. The perforated sensatec they're using actually looks really nice and classy.

I think the biggest determining factor should be bolster adjustment and lumbar support. Both do NOT come with sensatec which is a deal breaker for me. But to each their own

This! This is the main reason to get leather. The lower end BMW leathers hold up quite well over time. I had an E90 330i (last year before the 335, and no iDrive!), I traded it in at 9 years old and the leather still looked 90%+ brand new.

thx for the additional input guys... I have owned 3 BMW coupes w/Leather, but color choices used to be better. Both my E46 Coupes had gray leather which I loved, my 2018 230i had Black leather.. was stark & not exciting

with blue contrast stitching is black leather more exciting??

I think the stitching helps, but still a bit too stark and bland for my taste. My wife has the black interior in her X5 and its not bad to drive occasionally, but I love the Coral Red in my car so much better!

you guys are killing me... ha-ha

I changed my week #48 build to Black leather w/the Blue stitching and also the Illuminated M trim. My wife likes this change also. Both will help brighten cabin a bit vs. the previously light Beige Sensatec without Lumbar (for some stupid reason)

The lack of width adjust and lumbar on Sensatec I imagine has to do with parts shortages. They want to have the option available for the more expensive leather, and it forces a lot of people to spend an extra $1450.

The white one I test drove had Cognac in it. I thought it was quite stunning with the black on the rest, it had black stitching. Kinda like a butterscotch. It would look good with the blue and not be as light probably not show as much. I've set in the leather and mine doesn't have it and really can't tell the difference except price. Everyone thinks mine is leather.

thanks bluesman & sounds good... but I am not a fan of Cognac, do not like brown interiors on any vehicle. That said, yes I know some people like it a lot

Sensatec is good enough no need to pay the extra $1500. It lasts longer because real leather gets wrinkles, at least in our x3. I would only pay $1500 to get M seats that they have in Europe otherwise I'm spending the money in other options.
