I know people are just starting to get their cars and there probably haven't been any mods yet, but is anyone considering any audio upgrades? My incoming car only has the base sound system, and if it's anything like the base system in my wife X5 (shes not into audio) I know I won't be satisfied. I've only had the HK systems on my past BMW's. I've checked around and none of the dealer/HEA cars in the area have the HK.

What would be a good upgrade path without breaking the bank? Has anyone had experience upgrading the system on a recent BMW?

I haven't checked it out fully as we wanted to listen to the motor when we picked ours up. But the minute or so I had it on..it's pretty... mediocre at best.

I feel your pain. Mine was as well. But it was this (by pure luck) or wait for months.

Even HK isn't great tbh. My E92 335i sounded better than any HK car out there.

I have a ton of audio equipment from my previous car I'll be transferring over to my m240i. Focal Utopia M 3 ways and JL Audio 12W6 sub.


The 2 series are odd. There's a 8 inch driver under the seats. 3.5-4 inch in the doors. and 1 inch tweeter.

Is it worth it to upgrade speakers only? And no, HK isn't high end but sounds "good" for a daily driver. I think the HK in my 2018 F30 sounds better than the Bose in my Boxster.

I did speakers-only to my base system F22 and it made a huge difference. Doesn’t get any louder but the quality is way better

So for ~$1100 I can upgrade all speakers, and this would be good bang for the buck. Question then is, is the amp worth another $1000 in terms of sound quality, and to a lesser extent volume?

Any reason to not go with Focal (as mentioned here), or other large aftermarket speaker mfg vs the "BMW Specific" speaker kits from Bimmer Tech?

Isn't changing out the amp a huge pain in the ass? I assume it would need coding.

No, the Bimmer Tech custom amp is supposed to be plug -n- play.
