For anyone comparing, here are good pics of the "regular" ambient lighting. Which appears to work much better.

Agreed. I'm really disappointed I ordered this feature. Hopefully the hardware is the same between the two and they can rollout a firmware update in the future to give us the option to turn off the M colors if/when we want.

The highlights are part of the door. It's there even with the lights off

But I read that the highlights "flash". So I can't imagine they are static.

the lights behind it go red and flash so still looks look the M highlighter

The pixelated pattern is painted or printed onto the surface of plastic and replaces the regular panel with just circles in it. I think you could probably replace the part with a regular one if you don't like it. Not sure if that part is separate from the rest of the door card or not. The flashing is probably referring to the red flashing that happens when you open the door with headlights on, so it alerts traffic coming behind you that the door is open. In theory, aftermarket could start making all kinds of cool replacements with various patterns. Would be neater if the instead of an opaque painted pieces you had the M logo cut out like the regular one so instead of little dots you have a light up M. Someone go and make this! Just make sure you send me a set!

Thanks for the video. Wow, I can't express how disappointed I am for wasting money on this option. Granted...$250 on $56K car is a drop in the bucket but the fact that it's worse than standard option makes the money spent feel worse.

The problem is BMW gives little info about some of the options. For example with a lighting options such as this, there should be a link that actually shows it compared to standard.

I like the M illumination tbh, but then i never wanted it lit up like a xmas tree to start with

The M illumination sucks which is why I prefer and opted for the standard ambient light, you also get ambient light on the dash and you can change it to whatever color BMW offers.

I like my m lights on the door card, and i like it even more now thats its standard on m2 ,adds something different and i get alot of compliments on them , i think the regular lights look kinda cheesy and cheap imo ,but the car is a blast to drive so id be happy either way
