You and your first car. Do you wish you still had it?
You and your first car. Do you wish you still had it?
What was your very first car? Do you wish you still had it or are you glad it's gone? I'll start: 1961 VW Bug I bought for $650 in 1967. I drove the wheels off of it it for 3 years and sold it for $600. I loved that car. Probably unsafe at any speed but we weren't thinking of safety in those days. Fun, efficient car. |

No pictures that I care to post, but a 1999 Maxima 5 speed that I put a short shifter on and a few minor bolt ons.
Honestly, I do kind of miss it. The throws were really kind of nice with the B&M short shifter. I knew a master chief Nissan mechanic that also did some racing on the side and had him put it on for me. He liked it so much he ordered one for his car. |

No pic of me with the car but this pic stolen from the internet is a dead ringer. Thought it was awesome at the time. It would be cool to have it but I don't really know why...it's not fast, not as cool as the z's from the seventies (although at the time it was way cooler), t-tops leaked, giant sidewalls, blah handling but yeah, I guess I do wish it was still in the driveway.

First car was a slightly used '68 VW Bug with a red and black custom paint job. Sadly, no pics. I was 18 and had a blast in that car. Only thing I did was put an aftermarket exhaust. ~53hp. What a rocket! |

I miss and don't miss my first car. It was a '76 two-tone brown Chevy El Camino. It was a hand-me-down. My dad bought it the year I was born and he taught my mother, my sister and myself to drive in it. That thing was stupid fast, no weight in the rear and built like a tank. Not the vehicle for a 16 year old boy. Oh at the hell that was raised in that thing.
If I had a place to store it, I would love to have it and make it custom. My boys and I have discussed buying one as a project car. |

Not my picture, but this was it. At least that's the one I drove the most, of my parents' cars, when I was licensed. 351Cleavland, bone stock. Beat my buddy's 911 from zero-~110, then he would shift into 4th and walk away. Everyone who rode in it thought I filled up with AV-gas, but it was just unleaded regular.
Just before my parents traded it in, I got Earl Shieb to spray it black. My babysitter was PISSED I spent $39.95 two weeks before I took her to Prom, and we couldn't go to the really nice restaurant. We still has some steaks though. IF I come into ~$50G I'd be all over getting another one. |

Yes, wish I still had my first car. It was a 1980 Mazda RX-7, a really fun car to drive! Don't have any pictures, lost those in Katrina. Pic borrowed from the interwebs.

2002 Acura RSX. That thing was BULLETPROOF. Only thing that went bad was the stereo, which was an OEM third party brand...Panasonic? Can't remember. Didn't know too much about cars back then but I liked how it looked, immediately added the bodykit upon purchase (lot of help that spoiler did since it was fwd lol). Should've gotten the MT but wifey sometimes drove and thought it would've been (more) nerve-wracking driving in HK but it was a piece of cake...oh well. Had to sell it since I moved halfway across the world but would've kept it for sure. My original 'White Baby'.

Not the actual truck as I would have never have taken a picture of the abortion, but similar just maroon instead of green accent.
A strong no... It was a free "truck" given to me by my grandfather when I turned 16 and my dad said we'd find a motor to put in it. I called it "tumor" because it was a cancer on my dating life. It stranded me and a date once in a thunderstorm and my date's dad called my dad demanding that I get a more reliable vehicle or she would not be allowed to see me again. We never got that truck running right. Now I know the thing didn't have the right fuel pump but I could never sort the real problem so I never saw that girl again. A year later I was rear ended (big surprise as it cornered like a parade float and had a top speed of 50 mph) But the collision popped the rear end up in the air, landed a few degrees off center and it flipped over and tried to kill me. Concussion, a couple of knocked out teeth and a scar on my forehead to show for it since the seat belt snapped and I flew around the "cockpit" for a couple of orbits. On the plus side, after that "Tumor" was dead and I found much better luck in a used Mazda RX7 which I did love and wish I still had. I was out of the house by then but Pops really hammered me for spending $2,000 on a used rotary but it ran for four years with no issues at all. As long as I kept oil in it, it ran like a Rolex.

I was given a 1977 BMW 320i and it was a slow tank with fuel issues. No. But my first purchased car was a 1992 manual integra, and yes i'd like to have it back and recondition it to OEM +. |

I turned 16 in 1977. I learned to drive on my dad's Ford Granada....yes in that Ford Granada blue, I had a friend Dave Carter who I bought my first car from. I paid $600 for an 8 year old '69 Firebird. It was orange when i bought it. I worked like a rented mule my whole life and I painted this bad boy Corvette Midnight Metal Flake Blue. I loved that car. This picture was taken on the street behind my parents house, my sister lives there now (mom passed away in October) my sister brought some boxes from the basement and I found this picture in one of them. I thought it was gone forever.
