My first BMW finally started production today!

My first BMW and first custom order ever in my dream color combination have finally started production! It is expected to finish production by 12/18 according to the dealership. How long does it usually take for it to leave the factory and get delivered to the dealership?

Also, I opted in for performance tires to get the 255 in the rear and the increased speed limit (I am going to learn to track with this car), but I am probably gonna take delivery of this car in the winter in Virginia. In your opinion, is swapping out to all seasons necessary? Should I order them and get them replaced on the day of delivery?

Thank you!

great, My 240 has been in Production Queue since Saturday!!!

I also ordered Perf tires to get the 255 rears... but I'm in S. Carolina so safe. Performance tires get hard and slick in cold temps below 40 degrees. Do not drive them in real cold temps, regardless of no snow

Mine has also been in production queue since Saturday. I'm not superstitious but fingers crossed at this stage!

I changed my tires from all-season to performance but I live in Phoenix where winter temps rarely reach below 50 during usual drive times.

I hope other's builds go better than mine. Placed order 9/2. Dealer said build week 43. Car was in "Production Begins" for 4 weeks, and has now been in "Quality Check" for 4 weeks. In news reports, BMW calls what they are doing "hole shoring", where they build most of the car and then wait to get the part(s) they don't have.

Yes, IMO you should have a dedicated All/S or winter wheel & tire set ready to go on.

Sorry to hear that. Mine sat in Ready for Transport at the factory for about 3 weeks. It has since been at the port for a month as of today because it was damaged. Its weird times, who knows what's really going on behind the scenes.

My situation is the same, except I had an early production week than you. Been a month in QC.

Ordered 9/20, production began around 10/5.
Stuck at "assembly in progress " for about two months now! CA has tried to find a reason to no avail. Frustrating! Dealer had an HEA car in BG weeks ago, but I wanted my options. Not real optimistic about December delivery at this point.

That something that should have been obvious given supply issues and information in the press.

Considering other people have ordered since I have and have gone into production not sure how a late October order should have obviously not made it by end of December?

All depends on options selected and when BMW can slot it in with existing claimed production.

The dealer had allocations. But it's okay it shows up when it shows up. If I get it in spring then that's not buying winter tires this year.

Allocations just mean the dealer has the ability to order and get more cars (dealers are assigned allocations so one large/wealthy dealer can’t just buy all the cars in the local market, or majority of low production models, and starve others out of vehicles). It has nothing to do with when the car is produced, within reason obviously. An allocation is not a specific production slot.

Looks like we have very similar timeline. My vehicle was ordered 8/28, production started 10/13, entered assembly 11/11, quality check 11/12. To this day it hasn't moved from quality, 5 Weeks and no movement. No one from BMW has any answers. It's the first time iv'e heard of "hole shoring", very interesting.
