I did as well back in Michigan, pre-early retirement, but probably not the same as you, based on your screen name and past-years Garage List in your sig! The role of the supply base and the role of OEM as "design releaser and assembler" does surprise a lot of "civilians"!

Interesting post.
Looks like at least a few local Mexican companies are getting involved with the change in production location. The cylinder head is produced by Nemak.

Not having a problem like people are complaining about, in the G8X models. It seems like in the newer cars, either the eq is completely turned off or the settings are all the way down. I adjusted the equalizer, in mine, and it's night and day difference. You really have to turn the volume up, past 3/4 to get it loud, but it's fairly impressive with the eq adjusted.

These cars have an EQ, not just Bass/Treble adjustment?

I assume it depends upon which audio system, the standard or the HK?
the HK option is the 688a series. It does have EQ adjustments, not sure about the standard HI FI (BMW 676?) system that is standard. Perhaps someone that has the standard BMW hi fi can answer? |

BMW recently (late 2020) shifted its petrol based engine production out of Germany. Munich is focusing on electric vehicles and electric based powerplants.
The BMW 8 and 12 cylinder engines shifted to a plant in England, 4 and 6 cylinder engines are produced in Steyr, Austria. I think this Steyr plant started production of such engines in mid to late 2020. Various engine parts may be sourced elsewhere? (ie heads?) |

In the original post i see Nemak is listed as the source for heads and oil pan. Nemak is a word wide company with plants all over the world, they specialize in aluminum castings for heads, engine blocks, transmission cases, subframes etc. A major supplier for a number of oems, for example the Corvette Lt1 (pre 2020) block was made by Nemak Canada (i think that plant shut down now). Nemak does have a big plant in Mexico. Nemak is a major supplier for various GM engine blocks. Nemak was a supplier to BMW from the Nemak Austria plant where they specialized in heads but also made blocks for BMW. With the plants spread worldwide (including Russia), it's tough to say where anything sourced from Nemak is actually made. Anyway they (Nemak) are a major player.
Also note, in the original post image, i see no mention of engine or block source, but they do mention oil pan...weird? |
