Do you mean like if you're watching a YouTube video on your phone but the audio is delayed coming through the car's speakers? That is normally for Apple CarPlay systems.

I've seen that on my wifes cars w/CarPlay. I think its just the nature of the beast, the signal has to be sent from the phone processed by the car and then output, plus I think the car may buffer 1-2 seconds, but I'm not sure.

Yeah. Software engineer here. Bluetooth don't do that. If they designed like this I am going to be very disappointed

this is why i don't like hand-offs or handshakes as they say in the A/V world.

Much better to play direct feeds from Installed Radio

CarPlay doesn’t use Bluetooth.

That’s just not how it works. It’s different. The CarPlay signal is a video stream that has to be compressed on the phone then decompressed on the car’s head unit. That adds the latency you’re seeing. Bluetooth just sends the audio and therefore doesn’t introduce as much latency.

I’ve seen this on every car with CarPlay I’ve ever used, including aftermarket head units.

Bits that take longer to get there, due to the extra latency introduced by CarPlay overhead (including compression). Believe me or not, but you’re firmly in my wheelhouse here 😀

Hmmm 🤔 I wonder how did the 1~2 second delay being acceptable when they deliver this feature

Most people are looking at the road, not their phone. It’s very hard to notice unless looking at a video on the phone.

Hahaha 🤪 I notice a few time then I tested it out. They should also account when people not driving and just sitting in the car

Keep in mind you can always go into manage mobile devices and change the connection mode back to Bluetooth (turn off CarPlay). That should cut out whatever overhead/buffering CarPlay is doing.

This. Android user here but I had to abandon using android auto because the experience was not enjoyable. I just use the bluetooth connection now and its much less frustrating.

Too bad they pulled SiriusXM. There shouldnt be much of delay between functions and it shouldnt matter if theres a delay if you are just listening to music, but if you are watching youtube and driving, a slight delay should be the least of your worries... dont do the latter.
