Most frustrating experience.....

I ordered a new m240i months ago (aug/sept). Went into production in the beginning of October. It's still in quality check and has been for 5 weeks. BMW genius doesn't know anything and either does the dealer. Dealer contacted BMW and said you can assume it's related to supply shortages. They didn't check or even say what they are waiting for. An ETA would be nice as I find it hard to believe all m240i have stopped production. How can my car be the only one? Anyone else having issues?

You're not the only one. At least one other person and I have been stuck in QC since November 12.

This is going to be the norm for awhile.

The 2022 RS3 for UK customers is so delayed that some of them have build dates of week 41 of 2022!

I can only imagine how long it will take for US orders to come, most likely not until Mid-2023!

I also have a 2022 M240i on order and it was in QC for 5 weeks and it just finally went into Final Assembly but I doubt I will see it until February.

Everything is a shit show right now. I ordered my M3 back at the beginning of June and still don't have it.

I ordered my M240i when the allocation was already in 112 status and it was supposed to be built a couple of weeks ago but was delayed till week 2 2022.

I've been tracking the status of another M240i that my dealership tried (unsuccessfully) to swap for mine. That one went into production on 1 Dec, it sat at QC for a while and has been in final assembly for at least a week, though I think a bit longer.

I think that the Mexico plant still has a long ways to go to get on par with how the tracking works at the other plants (in normal times). From what I have heard/read they definitely don't go through the whole process from exterior assembly begins to awaiting carrier in a week, which in normal times is what the other plants do.

I haven't seen nor heard of anyone's M240i getting out of the plant in a bit. The whole thing is so frustrating, I'd like to say that I expect BMW to be more transparent with the whole situation but I have a feeling that they don't know what the hell is going on enough to try and track and let us know. I think the whole tracking process could use improvement even though they are probably one of the best for the info that they do provide. That still doesn't help the painful wait. I feel like bashing my head into a wall daily.

Same, I honestly think they are queuing up a full bunch before the holidays ie one big shipment. My fantasy semi logical thought at least.

My M240i was ordered Nov 22, was in Quality Check for 3 days, and then sat at Ready for Transport for a week. Yesterday it jumped to In Transit, which I understand means it's on a ship.

I guess I'm lucky?

Sorry you are having this experience ordering but yes some cars are getting shipped. Nobody knows what delays certain cars and not others. Some said ACC (which I don't have), but I almost wonder if it's something else like tires/wheels/color/interior. Who knows...

Well that's positive news, at least some are moving. Yes they go into "In Transit" when on a ship and again after they leave the destination VPC on a truck. You just skipped the whole, awaiting carrier assignment and dispatched from factory and at the port steps. (Well they didn't scan it when at those steps that is)

Congrats on being one of the lucky ones.

Edit: Oh BTW, do you know how long it was from when you got a VIN to when you saw dot movement? I got the VIN for the M240i last week and thought that was positive but I highly doubt they moved me back to an earlier build when they kicked my 6 weeks down the road before

We have very similar situations. Ordered mine 8/28, production started 10/13, quality check 11/12. It is still in quality check for 6 weeks now. Got the same song and dance story from the BMW Genius Agent, CA, Sales manager and dealer owner. I made contact with an employee at the Mexico plant on social media today. Come to find out the plant is shutdown as of yesterday for three weeks due to the holiday. Went on to say many cars are just sitting there at the plant.

Dont they go from in-transit once they leave the plant, to at-port once at the port in MX. Then back to in-transit when on a ship, back to at-port once unloaded, then carrier assignment, then at-dealer?

It goes Final Assembly > Ready for Transport > Awaiting Carrier Assignment > Dispatched from Factory > At the Port (departure) > In Transit (Ship) > At the Port (destination) > In Transit (truck) > At the Dealership

Here's the silver lining: once the missing part comes in, there probably won't be a need to wait to fill up boats.

Wow, 3 weeks holiday shutdown. I wonder if they took an extended break to allow suppliers to have more parts ready when they return? That really sucks for those of you who still have cars at the plant. I wonder if the VPC's are also going on shutdown? If it's anything like the US auto companies there will be at least a 1-week shutdown.

Correct, although some of these steps only lasted for a couple hours. I never caught my car showing "awaiting carrier assignment". It went from "ready for transport" to "in transit" while it waited at the port in Altamira, Mexico and while it was traveling on Glovis Spirit. It then goes backwards to "at the port" once it reaches the destination port, then awaiting carrier assignment, and goes to "in transit" while on a truck car carrier to the dealer.

Do any of the US bound BMWs made in Mexico transit from factory via rail? All i see is mention of ship via ports. Reason i ask is i was on a Kansas Southern railway site and they claimed that 85 percent of all Mexican manufactured cars destined to US travel overland to US via rail by Kansas Southern? And they do have a rail line running to San Luis Potosi. Perhaps BMW only does ship carrier even to say short hops to west coast US?

Be difficult to get via ship to majority of US states. Do they just ship to nearest port on west or east coast? Then truck it in from there?

Yes there are VPC areas for the US market based on port locations of vehicle entry.
