Anyone else have OCD?
I consider myself fortunate that it doesn't control my life but I'm trying to work thru it.
Mine always comes out at night for some reason. Not sure why. - I always have to double check the garage door is closed. Sometimes I turn off the alarm to check. - I always have to check the oven is off (normally minimum of 2 times) even though I know it's off after we're done cooking dinner. - I need a full glass of ice-water next to me while I'm sleeping. So if I'm laying in bed before going to sleep and sipping the water, I normally go back to the kitchen a few times to top it off. Anyone else? |

I check the garage doors every night because my wife has on occasion left one open. I also check door locks before bed and keep a bottled water next to bed because I sometimes wake up thirsty. But I don’t consider any of that to be a symptom of OCD.

Our OCD psycho dog certainly does!
If your list above is examples of OCD behavior, then I probably have it as well. Except for the water thing, because I'm up every hour anyway visiting the driver's lounge because of the massive Vitamin Pee (diuretics) dose I need to stay alive so I just grab a few sips from our water cooler as I walk past it. On the bright side, I know where my wedding band is because I put it in the same place every night, can find all of my tools because I obsessively put them away in their reserved spots, and have my home automation system send me an alert that the doors/windows are closed and alarm set whenever I leave home to avoid having to turn around at the end of our street to go home and check everything.....

my coworker has OCD. we have a shared work station with 4 operators. he literally sent out a mass email about who keeps putting the stapler on the left side of the keyboard to the right side of the keyboard! he literally sent an email to HR saying he's being harassed and wants to file a complaint

Who's got OCD? I don't have OCD. Do you have OCD? I don't have OCD. I think we need Maynard input here Not because I think he has OCD but for his expertise. I don't have OCD. Do I?

You guys are all wrong, I think he meant "COD" (start @1:52 if link doesn't work)
Anyway, I don't think the water thing is OCD, but checking stuff repeatedly definitely is... Luckily I don't have anything like that, no allergies or other stuff either *knock wood*. I wish I was more compassionate towards ppl who do have OCD as it just makes me frustrated. Luckily I'm no shrink or else some of my patients would be jumping out of windows

But seriously, if you find yourself checking more than once it is worth keeping an eye on (or perhaps taking copious and alphabetized notes, cross-tabulated by time, item, and current blood pressure ). If # of repetitions is increasing, then worth seeing somebody who specializes (or you can try the DIY route with 'exposure and response prevention'). |

Guy's I sympathise with all of you if you do have OCD, I don't but can relate to many of the habits you refer to. I'm due to get my car ceramic coated very soon and the guy (OCD Lincoln England) who will be doing the work has OCD. Jason is so particular in every aspect of what he does I had no hesitation in booking it in with him, I've not seen better. So if you do have OCD, think about getting into car detailing? 'Tongue in cheek' comment you guy's have my sympathy.

I don't know that checking garage door before bed is considered ocd. I think it's more we have a habit of fucking around in the garage and leave door open for light / air. Then we wander back inside the house and forget to close it sometimes lol.
But, I had a friend of mine install this gadget that links to the garage motor unit. He set it for 10 mins. After 10 mins, it sends out multiple audible beeps and then shuts itself. I've totally been guilt of using the cameras on the F90 via the bmw app to take a picture to make sure the garage was closed, lol. Still do double check even after getting that device installed. |

I recheck locks even though I just locked the item, especially with snowboard carriers and padlocks. I also walk back to the car to check the parking brake and shift lever even though I obsessively check them while I'm leaving and closing the car door.

You have no idea. My OCD is bad and makes me unrelatable to most people. Cabinet contents in my kitchen - labels have to be facing outward and all things are organized. My car stays meticulously clean (aside from winter months), I get told that my house looks like a display home, and so on and so forth. My job is a blessing as a 5S/Lean guru. I get paid to implement lean manufacturing practices and eliminate waste.

I wouldn't say OCD but I am very particular about certain things. If something is not straight or square I can pick it a mile off, even if it is just a few mm's off. My brother in law's TV is mounted poorly, the right side is further off the wall than the left. He can't see it, neither can his missus or my missus, but it bugs the fuck outta me every time I go there.
I also hate cables, so we are putting in a little media unit in the basement, nothing fancy but I am losing my mind because I have a power plug at 19 inches and the units seem to all be at 17 inches (screen on wall) or 30+ inches (screen on unit) so my receptacle would be showing and so would the gaming/AV plugs. I won't rest till i find one 20 inches high though. |

OCD has got to be the most mistakenly self-diagnosed condition, so much so that i don’t think we all truly understand what clinical OCD is. Curious if anyone here actually has been diagnosed with it?

If double-checking locked doors at bedtime is OCD, then I guess I have it.
