Vegas envy
I have a terrible disease. Anytime ANYONE TALKS about Vegas I get Vegas envy. I love to talk about it, I love to tell people about the cool hotels and the amazing restaurants.
My wife and I have been many many times but last time was probably 2013. I’m dying to go, but the flight alone inhibits me…now add wearing a mask for 5 hours to and fro plus the nut jobs on planes nowadays…..UGHHHHHH Discuss Vegas experiences and stories….. (Currently watching Fremont St Undercover Boss) |

Jesus. Talk about both ends of the spectrum here
Tommy - A lot has changed in the almost decade since you've been there. I am eternally grateful I got Vegas out my system when I was young. I loved it so much I disappeared into Vegas and didn't resurface again for about three years. I barely made it back to reality. I don't want to get into it but all the cliches? Oh they all happened and lemme tell you, they aren't cliches, they're warnings. wtwo3 - You and the Mrs would enjoy it purely based on the cuisine alone, even if you weren't interested in gambling, shows, concerts, et all. That's the one thing Tommy has missed out on - there's a bunch of Michelin star restaurants on the Strip now. All the celebrity chefs have multiple restaurants. The $2.99 steak, eggs, hash brown and toast (RIP Holy Cow Restaurant ) meals have been replaced with buffets that rival fine dining-ish. |

Can't stand Vegas. Have been there almost every year for CES, over last 30 years, including a week ago.
So Over It

Funny how perceptions are different. I've been to Vegas several times and have always had a mixed experience. Photographer's goldmine for sure. I have tons of cool Vegas pics. Never been all that impressed with the restaurants, but we're not big steak or sushi eaters, so maybe it's that. Vegas is a good central point for a lot of day trips. Valley of Fire, parts of Death Valley, Hoover Dam, etc.
I think what bothers me the most about Vegas is the other visitors. I have seen unreal rudeness and bad behavior on several trips. I remember trying to pull into the driveway to a hotel garage. The crowds crossing the driveway simply would not give way. We sat there for many minutes and the river of people just wouldn't end. Cars behind me started beeping, but when I tried to ease my way through, I had drunken oafs pounding on my hood and raising their hands like I'm doing something wrong. Another time we were in the connecting passage between several of the hotels and a huge couple came wallowing down the way. The woman plowed my wife over without batting an eye. Obviously on their way to feed at the buffet trough. And on the same trip we got stuck on a very crowded stairway once because a group of idiots decided the bottom of the stairway would be a great place to stop and have a group chat. I guess if you can tolerate hundreds of Jerry Springer guests, then Vegas can be fun. But I doubt I'll ever go back. Couple pics.

2 nights max. Maybe it's because I can't control myself but I'm always hungover after the first night and the second day is miserable. I also hate how big the casino's are and the walking sucks (I love walking, just the process getting from the strip to your room always takes like 30 minutes)
We had a great time August 2020 during the height of the pandemic. No one was there and I didn't have to really interact with anyone. Can't see myself going back anytime soon since we have all the table games (except roulette) here in AZ + sports betting. |

I've been going 3-4 times a year with my best buddy since the late '80s. He now lives there, which makes life much easier, especially in this modern era of outrageous resort fees, paid parking, etc. Same bartender has been pouring our drinks since '94, and we've been great friends with his entire family for years now. Every time I'm in town we do at least one huge bbq over at his place. I'm headed out a week from today to indulge in a weekend of NFL playoffs, heavy drinking, dice tossing, great food, fending off hookers, etc. A few other mutual friends will be coming along this time too. Gonna be a great long weekend. Oh and we're gonna catch Ron White either Friday or Saturday.

When the tourists come in, they really believe the - "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" and start acting up. They're not at home so it's acceptable to start behaving like you're important. |

Been there one time. Went with the family when the kids were young. It didn't impress me much. No real desire to go there again.
PS - stayed at Circus Circus and my son threw up while on one of the rides. Felt sorry for anyone that was below us. lol |

I'm leaving for Vegas tomorrow. Unfortunately Vegas is one of my least favorite places to be on the face of the Earth. It's dirty, trashy, expensive, crowded, noisy, and I hate to gamble.
I've been going for decades for a trade show for work every year and when I retire I plan to never be there again ever. LOL You are either a Vegas person or you're not. I am not.

Today it's not all that great.
Restaurants are understaffed and close early. Prices are sky high. Resort and additonal "fees" everywhere. The Strip literally stinks from all the people outdoor smoking marijuana. Hotel floors are just as likely to stink from MJ smoking. Casino rewards programs have been gutted. We go once or twice a year for poker.

We love it so much we got married there. Graceland Chapel. Elvis "Blue Hawaii" package. Fantastic. That was 11 years ago. One of these days we will go back and renew our vows and do it all again.
A word of advice for anyone considering getting married in Vegas. When all your rational friends tell you "Dude, DO NOT have your bachelor party the night before the wedding. It's Vegas, that shit cant be controlled." Listen to them. Our wedding day was bar-none the worst hangover of my life. I remember virtually nothing of my bachelor party after dinner which would have been about 9:00 PM. Got back to the hotel around 3:00 AM. I'm told I had a really good time. I was still drunk at lunchtime the day after the party. Started sobering up around 2:00 and then the hangover set in. Just in time for the wedding at 7:00 PM. We had a couples massage at the hotel scheduled for the afternoon, just before the wedding. I was face down on the table doing everything I could do not the vomit through the face hole and onto the masseuse's shoes. Last edited by DETRoadster; 01-15-2022 at 12:54 PM.. |

We play at MGM properties and stayed at Paris. My wife and her childhood Vegas friend went to the bar under the Eiffel Tower and someone roofied her. I went out gambling so they could chill and talk about their old times. I ended up calling the police to try to find her. She wouldn’t answer her phone, her friend had no idea what happened to her. She had left to go home and apparently my wife passed out in the casino bathroom and someone found her. The Paris security brought her home and I found her passed out in our bathtub. Poor girl was dead to the world the whole next day. I felt terrible for her but she didn’t want me in the room while she was dying so I proceeded to have a solo day, started drinking at Paris and lost it about Caesar’s I think. Lost an expensive pair of Prada glasses, spent unk $$$$ and stumbled home from Caesar’s to Paris which as you all know looks like 2 blocks but ends up being 328 miles when you’re drunk |

For those that have to go for work/ trade shows, check out Bavette's at Park MGM— it will ease your pain. Ask me how I know 😉
Great steaks And bourbon selection Ask Dennis the bartender for a great bourbon drink called the Lion's Tail

When my husband and I first met, he took me to Vegas all expenses paid.
I was very impressed with him and his style, to say in the very least. Had a great time there for the 3 days we stayed. I got alcohol poisoning from seeing Skrillex at the beach party at The Encore, and the day we left I felt absolutely horrid. But my newly-met-eventually-to-be husband was a real trooper about it. I knew he was the one after this trip. Went back for our honeymoon and it was a blast! We spent 7 days in a nice condo air bnb right on the strip. 10/10 will do that again. It was nice to see the casino's but get away from their noise and perfumes. We also saw a few people getting married there and remarked how unhappy all the brides looked on their 'special day'. Im not sure if it was all the people walking around them or the heat, but I was sure glad we didn't do that. Something true about Vegas is, if you have a problem, that city will find it. Probably the only slight let down to me about Vegas is Fremont street isn't as entertaining as people told me it was on Halloween. People were dressed up in costumes yea, but it wasn't WILD as they claimed. In the past I would circuit the music festivals, so I've seen just about every indecent act and craziness there is. Fremont was like a 1 out of 10 on that day lol. That said, we both have a wild desire to go back when the border opens up to unjabbed people again. Maybe see the SEMA show sometime. |
