Is that bad? I don't feel as though that's bad in CA with a big brand insurance company, 2 cars, and 2 drivers per car. I do have a bunch of added things like glass insurance, rental reimbursement, etc with a 500 deductible as the highest for them all.

Is it a 6 month or 12 month policy? I work for a big insurer (no discount) and pay ~550/6 months for the m240i + 2017 Mazda Cx5, 2 drivers. If you're <25 years old, it may be understandable. But otherwise you may be overpaying. 500 deductible is okay. 750/1000 may save you a decent amount of coin, but more likely just shopping around. If it is a 12 month policy, its not terrible. I just am not used to seeing that as we only offer 6 month terms.

However, after googling and rechecking the emails from other insurance sites, I think i'm slightly below the average insurance premium for my zipcode. |

Insurance premiums vary a lot depending on the state so I don't think its comparing apples to apples between policies in different states. Living in Michigan, we pay some of the highest premiums in the country (typically in the top 5 most expensive states to insure) compared to say Ohio or Pennsylvania which is far cheaper to insure having had first hand experience living in those states before I moved to Michigan.

Location is certainly a large factor and I had missed it. Cali is not on the low risk side, but even more heavily dependent on the city. It's a stark difference either way - glad I don't have to deal with that mess.

I live in California and my premium is right around $900 for 6 months for the M240. It's actually the same as our $93k Audi SQ7. We do have a lot of coverage though. Insurance is through USAA. 300/500k liability and bodily injury. 300/500k uninsured motorist bodily injury. 300k property damage. 1000 collision deductible. 250 comprehensive. Ages 56 and 58.
You really need to look at coverage if you are going to compare insurance rates. The most interesting thing for mine is that the much cheaper BMW costs as much as the Audi to insure. I guess the risk is much higher with that kind of vehicle. The Audi is just as fast 0-60 with 500hp though. |
