Yep, I used that thread to install the mirrortap for my Escort Redline and the directions worked fine. The mirror assembly is probably the same exact part. or at least very close.

Basically what I found out is that the upper purple connector for the rain sensor is always on, which is okay if your radar detector shuts off, but not good if you have something that doesn't power off like the Escort dash cam. Mine was taking video of my garage for hours.

It seems like bigger connector below the purple one is a better place to tap because it actually switches off after a while. I locked the car and took a 7-8 minute walk and it was powered down. It turned on automatically when I opened the car door.

Also FYI, if your devices do not work with the 12v cigarette lighter outlet by the cupholders, that is probably due to the metal contact screw at the bottom of the socket being too short. I've seen other threads where BMW has replaced the contact screw with a longer one so your 12v plugs will work.

Does the mirror tap cut power after a while when car is turned off? I'm using a Uniden R3 wired to the mirror and I waited about 5 minutes and it didn't seem to power off

Mirror Tap doesn’t, but you should be able to set R3 to automatically turn off after a certain amount of time…at least you can on the R7 and R8.

I just power mine off manually when I pull into the alley, or elsewhere if I’m out of the car for awhile.

I could disassemble and tap into the correct wire that cuts power with the ignition, but not motivated enough to do that.

Sounds like you tapped into the correct wire, or at least a better choice than mine. Mine will stay one until the R8 times-out, or of course if I manually turn it off, which I do most of the time.

Mine too. Someone linked a G20 thread a few posts up. I followed that back in November and it worked like a charm ever since.

Some things to note: power shuts off after 7 to 10 minutes of not using/waking the car. The power will be turned on if you do anything to wake the car. IE: unlock doors, open a door, pop the trunk, shut the hood, etc.
