Talking *** ----> Nurburgring Trip - April 2009 <---- ***

Right boys and girls - it's time to start thinking about the next E90Post.com Nurburgring Trip - April 2009

Edit - It's three months away, which should give people enough time to start planning. However, booking tickets and hotels will need to be done by the beginning of March to ensure the lowest prices...

So, here's the suggestion -

I'm planning on going the weekend before Easter, as generally it is much quieter than the holiday weekend and you actually get decent track time. Normally, Easter weekend is rammed full and the queues just to get on the 'Ring itself can be hours long

So....

Depart - Friday 3 April
Return - Monday 6 April

Cost - Eurotunnel return ticket, booking in advance, is approximately £120 per car

Cost - local hotels, for instance the Mercure Koblenz, is currently €75 per room per night.

My brother and I always stay at the Mercure, as it's a big 4* conference-style hotel about 25mins away from the 'Ring, very comfortable, lots of underground parking, and serves a very good breakfast Although it's not so close to the 'Ring, many of the hotels around Adenau will be more expensive, small, and safe parking can often be an issue. Plus, like the guys found out from the last trip, being close doesn't always mean you can get to the 'Ring quickly!! If we all stay in the same place, it also means that car-sharing in the evening is easier so we don't have to take 10 cars just to go for dinner!

Soooo.... who's interested in coming along?!

The weekend will be full of laughs, great driving roads, obviously the 'Ring itself, fantastic countryside, great food, and all in all a very enjoyable weekend away. Good weekend out for wives/girlfriends too. You don't have to take your car on the 'Ring - you can come just for the fun and the oodles of passenger laps that will be available! And if you can't come out on the Friday, or alternatively return on the Sunday, that's entirely up to you - it'll still be a fun weekend. The drive over from London is approximately 5 hours if we're quick, or just over 350 miles.

Start posting below if you think you want to join up - there's already five cars confirmed

EDIT 2 - Insurance companies offering track day insurance -

I'd love to come, I will start doing some groundwork. Just off to make a cup of tea for her.

BTW
-When is it advisable to book Tunnel and Hotel?
-Insurance??? Is it required on the ring? Or will Euro cover suffice?

Tunnel and hotel bookings by the beginning of March, latest. That way you can be sure of getting the lowest pricing. I will keep an eye on the latest prices of the Eurotunnel and Mercure hotel I mentioned above, and will update accordingly.

Some insurance policies in the UK cover cars on the Nurburgring, or rather, they don't specifically exclude the 'Ring from the cover. Remember, the 'Ring is a private toll road, not a race track! However, there are insurers who specifically say that the car is not covered for use on the Nurburgring, in which case I would suggest you consider taking out specific cover for the weekend (if you intend on taking the car on the 'Ring itself). It isn't technically required however... Have a look at Moris Insurance (www.moris.co.uk) or Herts Insurance (www.hertsinsurance.com)

It`ll be cold and wet (if its not snowing ) but I`m up for it if a few of the Northerners want to get the overnight ferry from Newcastle/Hull. It`ll be roughly £2-300 return with a private cabin for the 2 nights and breakfast/dinner. Arrives in Imojen/Zebrugge the following morning then a 2.5/3.5 hr drive to Adenau.

Well, if you go for three nights...

£120 return ticket
£180 hotel
£150 food & drink
£ ?? fuel
£ ?? 'Ring laps (depends how many you do)

I think it will be close to £800/900 ??
