Hey there,

Just picked up my m240i a week ago, and I LOVE the thing. This is my first sportier car, so I'm unsure what's par for the course. I've been noticing that whenever I roll onto the brakes at low speed, or roll off them, I'm hearing what I can only describe as a loud grinding sound? It's similar to the noise you get when you just wash a car and drive it after it has dried, but it hasn't gone away in ~500 miles.


Is this something that will improve with time? Or should I make a service visit.

I'd bring it in.. after 500 miles the brake pads should have been worn enough not to make excessive noise... assuming it's easy to reproduce the sound, the car is under warranty.. have it checked before it causes more damage

or at least call the service department and seek their advice

Went ahead and made a service appointment, better safe than sorry. Appreciate the input here!

Possible pebble lodged in there???

There was a YouTube review - sorry can't remember as I've watched so many about this car. They had a stone lodged and was scraping against the disk. The stone did eventually fall out. Similar thing happened to me when I had a M4, took it to the dealers to remove as it was properly wedged in!

yes i have had that happen, pebble wedged between the splash plate and the disk, not uncommon to happen.

Does this cause damage to anything? Should I be worried?

if you have the means to do so, jack the car up, remove the wheel/tire so you can get at it and with a pry tool remove it, should be able to wedge it out. Of course first ya gotta figure out which wheel, have someone stand by each wheel and listen as you slowly move the car forwards or backwards.
I definitely would not leave it as is. If you don't have the means, take it to a shop.

Earliest I can get it in is next Wednesday.. that too long of a wait?

Never worked on cars before… so don't have the equipment to follow your recommendation unfortunately
