Engine Oil service due

Hey guys,
2011 / 328xi / 61K.

Just purchased the vehicle 2 months ago and the dealer (bought from Shift) said the oil change was done on 11/9 and the car hasn't been driven more than 200 miles since I took possession in Jan. Anyway, today the 'Engine Oil Service Due' notice came up on the iDrive screen. Do you guys recommend I get an oil change and get a fresh cycle under my belt?

First never second guess an oil change
Second they told you that because whenever the oil was changed last time maybe they didn't rest the mileage timer so now you need to just be sure change the oil and rest the oil change interval just for a piece of mind
(It's worth it!)

Agree with above.

3/4 my BMW's were new, only last one was used.

I figured it was cheap insurance/peace of mind to change engine/diff/ps/transmission fluids, air and fuel (diesel specific) filters.

Diff & PS fluid: at 135K miles was justified, you can hold on to 100K+.
Certainly change transfer case fluid.

Two thoughts - How do you know a car salesman is lying? His lips are moving... And there is no such thing as fluids that are "too fresh". Unless you were provided documentation that the oil was changed, assume it was not.

Were it my car, I would change the oil, reset the oil life monitor, and be on my merry way. Actually, if it was my car I would change every single fluid in the car as soon as I bought it - which I did when I bought my 46K mile 128i convertible summer of '20. And my Volvo last year. And every other used car I have ever bought.

Especially for Xis and autotragics - change those particular fluids early and (relatively) often.

Don't know who Shifts is. If not a BMW dealer, then they don't understand the E90 CBS system and probably used non-spec oil and the wrong oil filter. Put BMW LL01 oil in it and a MANN HU-816x filter in it.

SHIFT is another online car dealer like Carvana. I am sure they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

That makes it even worse. When I bought my Z4 from CarJax, they used an ill-fitting oil filter. Those jokers possibly know a little bit about cars... maybe. Some on-line car flipping company? Lol, ood luck with that.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

trehman How long do you plan on keeping this vehicle? As has been noted above, it's good to swap out every fluid in a used a car when you buy it so you have a baseline. If you do it yourself, its a few hundred bucks and an afternoon (or a day, if you're new to it) of your time.
