Possible Performance Center Delivery Tax SC
FYSA if you do a PCD and live in the following you may have a $500 tax: Arkansas, Maryland, Oklahoma, District of Columbia, Mississippi, South Dakota, Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, New Mexico, and West Virginia
"The State of South Carolina imposes a use tax of $500 upon the first use of a new vehicle in South Carolina, purchased from a state listed above. Since you will be taking delivery of your new vehicle in South Carolina, this tax may apply. This first time use tax will not be collected by your retail center or the BMW Performance Center. Should the State decide to collect this tax from out-of-state consumers, it would be billed by the State of South Carolina and payable directly to the same. The BMW Performance Center is not aware of any instance where the State of South Carolina has sought this first time use tax against any of our delivery customers. In the event taxes are assessed and taxes were paid in your home state, recovery of taxes may be available in full or part. Note that such recovery may not be available from states adjoining South Carolina." This notice only applies to customers residing in the states listed above. We are sorry for any concern or inconvenience this may cause you." |

Garage List 2015 Yamaha FZ-09 [10.00]
2018 BMW S1000XR [9.83] 2018 BMW R1200RT [10.00] 2023 BMW X4 [7.88] 2022 BMW Z4 [9.75] |
What the hell is this and can you please tell us where you found this info?
Fortunately I'm in GA, so not listed, but what a buzz-kill that would be to get a bill for $500 just for doing PCD.

It was an attachment to my welcome e-mail. I live in VA which is on the list. The good news is the way it reads I probably won't get taxed.

Yeah this is pretty much bogus and more cya for BMW. The SC use tax is basically sales tax for cars based on 3% of the purchase price not to exceed $500. This tax is only collected if you want to register the vehicle in SC. I am taking delivery at the PCD and I am taking my NC tag off a trade in and putting it on the new BMW. All sales paper work is handled in NC and NC sales/use tax is paid. I am not sure how SC would even know this transaction would have taken place.

Yeah I agree, they seem to always have a hand in our pockets taking money. But in this case, we don't have to worry about the warning from BMW. My dealership does numerous PCDs since they are only 90 miles a way and they have never heard any one being dinged for this use tax from SC.
