DS mode giving me physical resistance on downshift 2012 f30 335i

I haven't had any issues with driving in automatic or DS with the lever (no paddles) until today, took the car out to fill up tires bc of low psi, switched to Sport + and D/S and noticed that I can upshift normally with no resistance but when I try downshifting, it will still allow me to downshift but it feels clunky and unstable when I try. It's physically pushing back the lever. Any ideas?
