First quad exhaust tip conversion on G42 M240i?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey guys!

We’ve fitted a quad tip exhaust to our shop car. In doing so we’ve also improved the tone of the exhaust. It’s not a huge amount louder because we’ve left the OPF and cats in (for now). But it’s a welcome change and better than the fake OEM tips - in our opinion.

I believe this is the first car to have quad tips? What do you think?

P.s some of you will shout “sacrilege! No quad tips on an non-M car!!” To you I say, this car has M mirrors from factory. That ship sailed long ago …

Sounds awesome... Exactly the way I'd want mine.

Did you need to do anything like add a heat shield where the fake tips were? (I didn't see / hear any mention of it). I'd be a little concerned if the tips got hot, it could damage the paint around them. Not sure if that's an actual issue or not, though.

Thanks bud. We’re happy with it!

No additional head shield needed. There is plenty there already. The tips aren’t close enough to any plastic or bumper to cause problems.

Wish I knew a place around me that could custom fab an exhaust. Oh well. The stock sound profile is decent but I really want those quad tips. Looks great!

A system that loses dual LHS and RHS tailpipe outlet functionality…..

With valve closed single exit out of LHS tailpipe.

With valve open - predominately single exit out of RHS tailpipe.

🤔😐

Not sure what you're saying in regards to "no quad tips on an M car".

This isn't an M car. And why can't you put quad tips on a non-M car? Confused...

I love a good quad exhaust, but these aren't hitting me quite right. They look just a tiny bit too big maybe? Like a few millimeters too large. Can't put my finger on it, but A for effort anyways.

looks like a typo P1, probably meant "…on a non-M car", and likely included in a effort to preempt a fairly obvious complaint. doesn't make much sense otherwise.

At first I thought I was going to like a quad exhaust on the G42, but I now I prefer the stock tips. The flat bottom of the stock exhaust works better with the rear styling of the bumper and diffuser on the G42 than the round tips.

If you watch the video you'll see that this provides a better performance. It means that the exhaust gases have a more free-flowing exit via the straight pipe versus stock which needs to travel via the backbox regardless of being open or closed.

The stock box just closes off one pipe in comfort.

Yeah I agree with the car in stock form. Once our spoiler and diffuser are on, this will look a lot better - I am convinced.

My first choice isn't quads to be honest, but given the way BMW have designed the outlets its the best option. My preference would be supra-style single-dual exits.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes together with your spoiler and diffuser!
