Since I'm on the waiting boat. What are some "must haves" or needs to get for our new car?

Please list what brand/item/specifications of item your getting.

Ex:

Ceramic 5% window tint
XPEL clear bra

Congrats, and good question!

For me it will be acquiring a Winter set of wheels/tires, especially since I probably won't see my new M3 until Sep/Oct.

OEM staggered 19"/20" set of black 826M, with stock Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS A/S tires.

And along those lines, an OEM set of BMW rubber floor mats, PPF, and window tint.

Immediately - Winter wheels/tires and PPF.

Later - Wheel spacers, new springs, exhaust and possibly a tint.

Because I will have 2 wheel/tire sets for my new M3 (Winter/Summer), my spare will be a front wheel/tire from the set that is off the car, and I'll only be throwing it in the trunk (along with a tire iron & scissor jack) on long trips. On my daily commutes instead of a spare, I will only have a tire plug kit & micro compressor.

Haven't used one in over 15 years. No plans to buy one.

Living in sunny Southern California the floor mats aren't needed, but the trunk liner with a cargo net is a must! It helps keep everything in place and protects from small spills.

Here were my first purchased items for my G82:

ENET OBD Cable and Bimmercode app: I always code my BMW's, but getting a ENET cable to upgrade from a Blutooth wireless dongle reduced coding time to mere seconds instead of minutes. It reduces the chance of errors and thus anxiety. You can also code custom colors for ambient lighting:

I immediately got a phone mounting solution and phone cradle that doesn't block and buttons or vents:

As far as mods, thats entirely up to you, your needs, and your budget. For me, I had an MPE in my previous F80 M3 CS and I missed that sporty sound. I went with the PSI Midpipe, which isn't too expensive, sounds very good, but not obnoxious, and supposedly adds a little bit of power:

To me, the car sits a bit too high. Some spacers and an adjustable sleeve over kits like the KW-HAS are the perfect solution to dial in the ride height that suits your tastes.

Maybe you should literally read the title and purpose of this thread before posting a dumb response like this.

So you connect the cable (ethernet) to a laptop and customize through that?

I need to get this done when I get the car, it looks so good with those colors

My car should be here sometime in the summer

1. I ordered AST lowering springs already
2. Waiting to see what tires the car comes with so I can decide on spacer size
3. Probably some tint for the windows
4. Exhaust (most likely just midpipe)
5. Carbon rear spoiler
6. Carbon front lip
7. IND paint matched reflectors
3. Bimmercode so I can get cool interior lighting like jmg

What midpipe does that void warranty ? Also I'm worried I'll fuck up installing the reflectors

Every car gets a tint ASAP.
All-weather rubber mats
Trunk cargo net. My Audi SUV had a giant net that was taut. My two cars since either had no net or a poor quality net.

And maaaaybe lower it just a bit. Never messed with spacers or lowering a car, but all the pics of even slightly lowered looks tasteful in my opinion.

I've always had one, but can't find a good place to mount it in the G82. I don't like the look hanging under the mirror. I prefer it out of the way in the left lower window, but there is no good way to power it there. Might be able to run a tap cable from the mirror down around the window edge trim to it I suppose.

And, I'd had Valentine's for years, but I won't buy one now as Mike refuses to get on the GPS bandwagon for lockouts and I have no desire to fire up a phone app every time I drive to pair with it to get those lockouts.

I had a midpipe on my M2 and had no issues. And not sure yet of which one - need to hear more examples. Definitely not Valvetronic though, it sounds like a 370z lol.

Reflectors on my M2 literally took 10 min to do. Hair dryer to heat up the tape and then I just pushed them out.

I had similar thoughts. But then I recently re-watched the M-produced series of videos from last year. In two of the episodes, Tyres and aerodynamics, you get the impression that they selected the tire sizes and wheel gaps and offset positions with millimeter precision for the right overall blend of dynamics. I don't question that tastefully dropped and spaced wheels can look great, but I can't help wonder what the impacts are (to handling, road noise, fuel economy, or other).

You connect it to your phone and download an app called BIMMERCODE. You can code all kinds of things. There is a list of available preset options for the G20/G80 on their website.. You can also start to play in expert mode, but that involves some risk as you need to know what you are doing, and it's all in german.

Bimmercode for the G8X is discussed here: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1819751
Coding even more custom colors is discussed in the G20 forums here: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1708753. This applies to the G80 as well.

Alternatively, you can use the same cable to connect to a more powerful laptop app called E-Sys, but that is a bit advanced for me and I haven't tried it.

I agree.

Back in the day when I was messing with STIs, and EVOs, after installing lowering springs, the struts would die about a year or two later.

There is something to be said about the factory settings, however, keep in mind that the factory is trying to appease a broad audience, who most likely also appreciates comfort and tire wear etc. Lowering the car, changing the spring rates and dialing in camber is pushing more towards performance. Many owners lower the car for aesthetics, with actual performance being side effect rather than the goal. However, the advantages, even with spacers, are significant when deviating from factory settings.

While spacers are more commonly used on the street to get a flush look for aesthetics, for performance purposes, they allow for brake and suspension clearances from the wheel and tires for different setups. It's just another way of getting the setup dialed in without having to replaces an entire set of wheels. The thicker the spacer, the more it affects the suspension geometry, however. So going 30mm is probably not ideal, and a new offset is instead more desirable.

A proper strut/spring combination is super important not only for wear and tear on the strut, but for ride quality and balance. Cutting my springs on my '95 Civic made it ride and handle like bouncy garbage lol.
