Anyone doing the PCD at the end of April? Mine scheduled for 4-29. I’ve never done this before, I’m pretty excited. Anything I should know or do.

I did one in 2014 for my 435 M-Sport. It was a blast. If you can, I would spend an extra day or 2 down there enjoying your new car. There are some great roads to drive including my favorite:

Not much to do to prep for the PDC, they will create an excellent experience for you. I recommend you bring sunglasses. If you are arriving the day before there is a great seafood restaurant called the Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar for lunch. The hotel shuttle can take you and pick you up. I recommend planning your trip home to D.C. through the Blue Ridge Parkway on your trip home.

How does scheduling work, given the uncertainty in production? I'm in "Production Begins" (with assigned VIN) and have requested PDC from my CA, and he told me they would be in touch to schedule.

Does it typically entail a delay from when I would receive the car (vs just picking up at the dealer)? Who "pays" for the car while it sits in SC before I actually have my PDC appointment?

When your car hits the port you are contacted by your dealer for payment, tags, etc. The PDC contacts your dealer about 14 days out to schedule your visit. Once you confirm you will receive an email with instructions and forms to complete for you and your guest, hotel, etc.

Hm - so once I'm at 14 days out, how long would I expect to wait for availability? AKA how long do I have to buy a plane ticket, make plans for a specific day/week, etc.

You will have a hard date minimum of 14 days out. For example on 1 May they will offer you a pick up date for 15 May. There is no wait for availability. 15 May you do all the PCD activities ending with a 2 1/2 orientation to your car and you drive away. I was given my date three weeks out. Plenty of time to get a ticket.

Yes there is a delay with PDC. You will perform all the requirements of buying the car at the dealership about two weeks prior to PDC. So you will be paying for the car while it sits until PDC. If that concerns you, I suggest you forgo PDC and pick it up at the dealer. You actually would most likely get the car sooner that way as well.

I just did PDC last Monday and I paid for the car, did all sales paperwork 3/31 at the dealership and picked it up 4/11. If I did not do PDC, I would have picked the car up at the dealership about ten days sooner. This is based on my dealership being about the same distance from the Brunswick port as Greer, SC. So while technically I owned the car from a paperwork standpoint (with payment made), but I did not take physical possession until PDC. Hence, I did not start auto insurance until the day I picked the car up. At PDC I did not sign any further sales transaction paperwork. They just put a temp tag on the car that the dealership mailed prior with registration and off I went.

It was really a great experience and other than some extra scheduling logistics, I recommend it. For me it helped being only 80 miles from the BMW plant in Greer, SC.

I have PCD 4/29 but I am going in this week to do the paperwork. It seems like it added 10-14 days to my delivery.
