BMW M4 cracked grille BMW not covering under warranty

So Christmas morning my 4yr old decides to ride his new bike right past the front of M4 before I got the chance to put on the rubber handle bar grips. He nicked the front nose part. Maybe 1/4"×1/4". Back in March I noticed since I wash the car frequently a small Crack on the inside of the right side of the grille. Now it has grown and cracking further down. Took it in to BMW dealer Fields BMW Daytona FL worst dealer ever still pissed off I did not buy the car from them. The service advisor and service manager within minutes said BMW will decline and your son caused the Crack. So my 35lb son going. 2 mph had enough force going from right to left to push in the bumper to cause the damage. Escalated to BMW spoke to them twice and they feel that I'm lying and my son also did that damage. What a joke.

That sucks. But why do you think BMW would cover that under warranty? Isn't that the same as if something on the road slammed into your bumper and grill?

I can relate this stinks but it does seem like that damage could have been caused by your son and his bicycle.

I don't see any dealer good willing it under warranty especially since the repair would essentially entail bumper replacement.

You're likely better off having your insurance handle it.

No want them to replace the grille not the bumper. Factory defect cracked on its own. I get same area. But BMW is telling me that nick caused by a 40 lb kid cracked inner grille. You can see the depth of the nick. I get what it looks like but any common sense person, I have hundreds of people look at it and 3 body shops said no way that would have caused it.

Doubt it. Especially since it's right where your son hit the car.

I concur, no dealer or manufacturer is going to cover damage that wasn't their fault.

If not your son then a rock on the highway. In any case I'd never expect this to be a warranty claim. If anything this is an insurance claim and your comprehensive coverage would handle it.

This is not a warranty issue and its going to be the same with any manufacturer. Crack might have started after your son nicked it.

How can you say this when the crack is right near the nick?

The grille is plastic, and plastic cracks when hit....

The point it was not caused by rock or something hitting it, obsutely no scratches or damage to the grille. It's not the money. Just a point. Needs to be covered. I have bought 4 BMW over 20 years never had issues in the past with anything.

Hey Iam telling it was not done by my 4 yr son. You know how much force you would need to push that in to damage that to Crack. Well anyways thanks for your input.

I'm sorry it happened but if you posting this and looking for honest feedback I don't think it will be or should be covered.

So the incident happened back in December... and then in March you noticed the crack, which incidentally happens to be RIGHT BY where your son hit the bumper... and you're expecting BMW to cover it? I empathize with you because I know how pissed I'd be if I had damage...but im sorry, I would never expect this to be BMWs problem. It doesnt matter if your son hit it, if a rock hit it, or if you were hit by a falling asteroid... theres obvious visible damage to the bumper and the crack is right in the vicinity of that damage. Like I said, this is at most an insurance claim, and even then you may have to fib on the dates of this happening to your insurance company because we're now in May.

I'm all for pinning things on the dealer/manufacturer if warranted. This is on you (your son) bud. Sorry. I don't agree with you. Definitely shouldn't be covered by warranty.

Sounds like a good excuse to get the Vorsteiner grille.

The most hurtful part is knowing the damage is there…even though it’s cosmetic.

Of course he's joking! What he meant to say was that the OP should sell the kid's bike to help pay for the new grill.

Crappy situation.. but great opportunity to upgrade to aftermarket carbon grills

I have trained my 5, 8, and 10 year old well... to the point where guests are greeted by them and told to stay away from daddy's car.
