Hey all. In the last year or so, are there portable vacuums that measure up? If you use and love a battery powered vac for cleaning your car, please post up what you use and why you love it.

It’s better to buy a corded than cordless since most cordless cleaner have a non replaceable battery so after some time, you must throw away and buy new unit.

If you buy cordless, then make sure that the vacuum can turn on when it’s connected to charger with a cord. This would help in case the battery is non replacable, you are still able to use it.

I am also in the market and these are the two requirements i am looking at now.

Why cordless? Do you live in an apartment complex where corded isn't an option?

Otherwise, stick with a Ridgid. They are vacuums as well as blowers, so you can use it not only vacuum your car... but also blow-dry it after washing!

I use this, I’ve used corded and cordless, this has more than enough power to do several cars without recharging… Great suction…

Not an apartment, and I have several shop vacs. hahahhaaa…. I'm trying to pare down to an efficient, quick process.

Dragging the shop vac outside and rolling that huge thing around the car just feels clunky. The little shop vac - you have to place in the car or hold to reach. - Maybe I'm just into longer hose territory.

- wondering if the dyson V8 w/ attachments might get the job done.

I have a Dyson stick and a Dyson ball thing with a cord. The corded one gets about 4x more pet fur out of the carpet and is easier to use, aside from moving it from door to door. The length of the stick vacuum is cumbersome inside the car and makes more than a few areas hard or impossible to reach. Plus Dyson sucks at attachments for the cordless models.

I have a small Dewalt corded/cordless vacuum. I use it corded 100% of the time. It's the perfect size and power for vacuuming vehicles.

My compromise (for now) is using the 3gal shop vac on wheels as the car vac- searching for a non-marring aftermarket hose.

The little 2.5gal shop vac will be configured as an always-ready wet-vac, and the big shop vac stays put away until remodel/major projects.

If you use a shop vac then I assume you have a garage and plug into a circuit in the garage. If so, don't fuck around with a battery vac or the PIA shop vac. Get a garage vac that hangs on the wall. I have a Vacumaid. It hangs on the wall out of the way and can have either a 25' or 50' hose.

Takes me a year to fill the bag up cleaning my 4 cars and vacuuming the garage a few times a year. All metal, made in USA. Pulls a vacuum as hard on a full bag as an empty bag. It's at the ready any time. Pull those off the wall caddy and flip the switch. Get the car care kit option.

Update: I bought a DeWalt stick-vac for the house (for quick clean-ups). LOVE IT. - batteries for days because of the burgeoning DeWalt tool collection.
