BimmerLink doesn't officially suport G42. Anyone tried it?

Hi all,

I'm about to get my G42 this week and as I always do with all new cars, I check myself with a OBD diagnosis tool to see if "everything is OK" the day I get my car + next days/weeks I keep an eye on it. Generally cheap & good practice...

Thing is that BimmerLink ( https://www.bimmerlink.app/ ) (I don't know if i am allowed to paste URL's in here, (admin) delete it if it shouldn't be here) doesn't officially support G42...

Anyone that has this diagnosys tool has already tried it?

Thanks in advance

Yes I've used it. It doesn't allow me to permanently open the exhaust flaps it wants to stay on the auto setting. BimmerCode works just fine.

conradb58 if you are looking for an easy way to put your flap always open without software... take a look to the post in here where it shows the fuse to pull that only acts for the flap:

I coded my car the first day I got it. I'm not in the game of making stuff up just to say something.

So you can code a G42 using F22, F23, or F87?
Cool.
I had not tried!

No, you use the G20 setting, since they're almost the same car.

3 Series, M3 works the best in my experience.

There is options to code it just isn't as many options as it would offer with full support.

Yes - disable or there's a memory function to the last input you made.

I have Used Bimmercode for afew things using G20 settings.

One that does not work is assisted driving view in the cockpit.

You can code it but you wont get a display in the cockpit view.

Might be an idea to start a what works what does not work in Bimmercode till our cars are supported,

Doesn't doing that risk the new car warranty?

With other cars a change to the engine controller's setup/configuration (applying a "tune" so to speak) sets a permanent error code which flags the dealer/factory the the engine controller software has been modified. This can render the warranty (at least on the engine and maybe drive train) null/void.

I’ve never heard of that. All I did was turn on a feature that was just off from the factory.

I recall reading that they can detect map/tune flashes, so maybe there's a flag for that section of memory, but not settings type of stuff?

BMW's software they use to program their vehicles (kind of) recently got an update that allows the software to detect when the code in the ECU has been modified. I tested this out with a stock 2016 340i that I flashed to have the mirrors fold in when the car locks, after it was flashed when you plug the car in and it scans the ECU it pops up with a little fault code and error message that says "this vehicle has been modified". This message will void any warranty claims involving that vehicle I believe.

I've done this and works perfectly!

Start the car in Sport+ then pull the fuse.

Shut the car off and restart and your good to go, valve open in comfort mode.

No, this is in no way an engine tune and nothing here will cause the engine/components to exceed stock parameters. This is more akin to changing settings in as secret preferences menu.
