What's the perception you speak of? Seems to be generally positive best I can tell. I hope to order one in a couple years. Probably a comp or CS.

I've been in the forum several times. I only see a few gripes about it being bigger, or not a real BMW, basically the same shit people have said for 25 years when a new version of an old car comes out.

This basically confirms that the following generation will at least keep ICE alive in the form of a hybrid, which is welcome news. However the generation after is going to become a golf cart.

The EU voted again to keep it's stupid 2035 combustion ban. So I'd imagine two generations from now we are f*cked. These militant ideologue politicians see only their own radical agendas, not any common sense or ability to compromise. I wonder what will be their next scapegoat after 2035 when climate change is still chugging along.

I am even more pessimistic, I really doubt were are going to even see cool engine architecture again.

That worse version of the B58 is coming and supercars will all have hot V6 design.

Maybe some hypercars can manage to keep a V8 or V12 or two.

For me, the end of M cars as we know them, I don't care how fast they will go or how much power they will make as an EV.

Take away the noise, the oily bits, the quad exhausts, the tuneability, the smell of 93 octane fuel; fuck me, even the transmission, and that's where the line is drawn for me.

Was always gonna come to this, but it came so much faster than I thought, not even ten years ago we were still on the E9x V8 M3 and that feels like yesterday then in the blink of an eye it's the seeable end of ICE cars.

Agreed. I don't even dislike EVs fundamentally, I even used to work for Tesla. My gripe is this hell bent narrative to ban the production of any single new ICE car despite there clearly being an enthusiast market for it. EVs are superior for the overwhelming majority of vehicles. But to not even allow a handful of M cars, AMG cars, 911s, supercars, etc. to continue seeing the light of day is what angers me.

In a decade it may very well just be some Japanese sports cars that exist to carry the ICE torch forward. Those of us are used to and love European cars will have no ICE options.

Yeah, it's crazy. I feel like we went from EV are the future and 'one day' we will all be driving them and then overnight it's like the futures here whether you like it or not lol EV or nothing.

I feel someone very high up in the government watched Mad Max and took it literally

I never feared EVs, I just thought they'd co-exist with gas cars for people who needed or wanted combustion power due to their lifestyle and/or hobby.

This isn't even about saving the environment, it's about filling their pockets with cash. EVs = new supply chains, new start ups, etc. to invest and profit from.

What? At the expense of all the existing supply chains? Who's getting their pockets filled? The politicians?

Big oil is doing plenty well. Even as EVs become the norm and less demand for gasoline exists, they will just adjust production to ensure they are still making bank.

EVs are a whole new industry. It's a new way to make money for companies, shareholders, etc.

Porsche investing deep in synthetic fuel

Toyota starting to make headway into carbon neutral liquid fuel starting with hydrogen

Nissan has just put a new Z running on bio-renewable fuel into the Fuji 24h Super Taikyu endurance race

I hope BMW M has already started looking into designing and engineering new architectures running on CNF (Carbon Neutral Fuel) or else one day they will be totally left behind

It's not particularly difficult to change an internal combustion engine from one source of fuel to another, especially if you're talking about new engine designs. BMW isn't at risk of being left behind here.

Their EV motor looks very good as well. The real questions remain around fuel mix, battery tech, etc and we won't sort through that for another 10 years or more.

Does anyone know how this info will affect the duration of the 6MT? Will they make it auto only once it becomes a hybrid?

To be honest, I don't even really care that ICE is going away anymore. Even the new ones don't speak to me like the cars that were being released in the late 2000's.

I can literally think of 10 cars on top of my head that I'd rather have than a new G80/992/AMG ect ect... Not to mention manuals are almost non-existent nowadays, so you might as well take ICE away too while we're at it.

I'm all for electric DD's (I'd love an electric Tacoma when they release it) as long as I'm allowed to keep the cars I have. So far, they might not be releasing new fun ICE cars (to my eyes), but as long as I can put gas in the tank for fun drives every now and again, I'm fine.

That seems a weird take to me. The upcoming m2 is very compelling. Porsche has some top shelf stuff right now and the Supra and GR86 are excellent

Porsche has top shelf stuff at $$$$$ which unfortunately doesn't work for me. Not to mention I keep my cars for good which means maintenance will be a concern.

Supra, with a manual is not an upgrade to my F87 M2 Competition.

GR86 is fine, but worth it over say my E36 M3 manual? Not really.

I guess I should have been more clear with my post. I'm very content with what I have at the moment. And if I didn't have them, there's already plenty of used cars out there that are benchmarks IMHO.
