What's you home stereo system

Just a little tickler rescued these speakers 25 years ago before they went to the dumpster finally had the time to refoam the woofers and found suitable replacement for the blown tweeters. I have been rewarded with the best sounding speakers I have ever had for well under the cost of a cheep set of book shelf speakers. A sweet set of B&O redline 140 rated for 200watts. I just stumbled across a David Hafler DH-500 power amp one of the most underatted hifi amps made. The speaker stands for the B&O have long since become unavailable. So with tons of pictures and a lot of measurements later I built a set out of Maple that work just like the originals. Speaks can be tilted mounted vertical or horizontal bast on the room and listening position.

Nice. I've always admired the B&O design. Only B&O items I own are the earbuds. Found it funny that they were used as a prop in Minority Report. Don't think many would recognize that.

Always been into high fidelity and acoustics as a kid from my dad's interest. Really got into it in college when I was given an old Harman Kardon Citation B. Got into the hype with Bose and got a pair of 4.2 speakers. They weren't bad but not great. Eventually upgraded to an Acoustimass AM-5 and thought I had reached the pinnacle. I happened to visit a local audio boutique near my college. They didn't brush me off as some poor college tire kicker. They took the time to show me around and introduce me to what is possible with well engineered components. That's when I got hooked and went down the black hole of seeking audio nirvana. I returned the AM-5s and bought a pair of open box Mirage M490s....which I still own to this day running the audio for my family room.

While it's not top dollar this is my current reference system:

Could have spent a lot more but focused on the best value for the money as things got to the point of diminishing returns. At my vacation home, I have a smaller system which is a 2.1 system. Essentially components I've upgraded from. Still a very good system. I recently had to buy a new amp as the Emotiva XPA-2 gen 1 took a dump in my reference system. I moved the XPA-2 I had in my 2.1 system over to my reference system and purchased the new Adcom GFA 555se from the newly revived company. Nice to see the Nelson Pass designed Adcom amps live on.

I remember the Hafler amps. Great find. I often reminisce about those days when Apogee, Mirage, Counterpoint, Carver, and the like were all alive and well. Things have certainly changed with this hobby these days and in many ways not for the better.

Agreed there isn't much out there any longer. Thankfully I spent most of my teens into my late 20's as an electronics repair tech and had a great mentor that is quit the audiophile is even certified as a master tech with B&O. So I really got schooled in these systems and learned to hear music not just listen to it. I am thinking I might end up doing a recap on the Hafler and even found there are updated driver boards that make the amp even better but like any other hobby how much you spend has a direct correlation to how well things perform

I just have a simple Yamaha 5.1 4k receiver and Sony Core Series speakers. I need to find a good option for wireless surround because I have no way to cleanly hide wires, so right now I just have it running in 3.1.

I have 2 channels upstairs with Legacy Audio Classics and an Aragon 4004 amp that sound great. I really like the full body sound of the classics and the aragon pairs with them really nicely giving plenty of range and a lot of warmth.

I have a 2 channel setup in my kitchen with Legacy Studios and a Denon amp.

In my basement I have a 5.1 set up with Definitive technology speakers and a sub surrounding a 120" screen and a Ben Q projector

Had been using Tube Amp's for about 20 years with high efficiency speakers. Klipsch Forte and then Zu Omen, I have decided to in a slightly different direction so picked up a McIntosh Amp and Tannoy Kensington GR speakers. I'm also getting back into Vinyl so I added a Bluenote Bellevista Turntable. We still stream most of our music though.

I'm giving my old Tube gear and speakers to my kids.

Great save on the B&O speakers. I have four B&O turntables from over the years, three of them straight-line tracking 4000 series.

I've been a Hi-Fi freak since my dad left his mono JBL system at the curb for the Goodwill back in 1962 as he went stereo. As a nine-year-old, I dragged the system back inside and hid it in my closet. Still have that JBL 030 system and a matched twin for stereo today. My main system uses a JBL 4345 4-way monitor with 18-inch woofers powered by bi-amped Crown PS200 and PS400 amps through electronic crossovers. I have over a dozen other vintage JBLs, over a dozen other Crown amps including a Studio Reference-II, Adcom, Soundcraftsmen, Carver, Parasound, and Kyocera components or systems. I've also acquired DCM TimeFrame speakers (500 and 600) just for fun. My library system uses JBL L5s with JBL/Urei 6260 amp, Crown PSL-2, Nakamichi Dragon cassette, Oppo disc player, and Emotiva XDR-2 DAC for remote volume control. I've been passionate about vintage JBLs before they were vintage and before even my BMW addiction. Here's the main system speaker:

And here's another pair of vintage JBLs that are simply stored for the time being:

Here's mine - running a 5.1.4 atmos setup

Polk lsim707
Polk lism706c
Polk in ceiling for the 4 atmos channels, forget the model
Polk fx rears
Velodyne 12
Osd 5180 for the front 3
Yamaha aventage 2070

Scale looks funky in the pic, but that's a 77 oled for reference

its great to see some amazing sound systems esp people running such great vintage gear. I have started looking for a Daynco tube preamp but they have gone up in price so much that I just can justify it right now. Still finishing the drywall in my soon to be entertainment roomone thats done il be able to fine tune everything

Since there's some vinyl enthusiasts, here's a close up of mine. VPI HW19 Jr. Has the upgraded MkIII platter. Audioquest PT-9 tonearm. Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III high output moving coil cartridge. I forget the brand, but silver wiring between the cartridge and the tonearm. Phono preamp is a Vincent Audio PHO-700. Looking to upgrade the stock tube as I've seen some discussion there are better sounding ones out there that can be used.

I'll have to add a photo later, but my A/V set-up is a mixture of Yamaha, Polk and Klipsch components along with an LG Wallpaper television handling the viewing responsibilities.

I have a home theater that's the best I could do for the budget and space constraints I have, so this may be beyond what you are interested in, or laughable

Main Speakers: five Zaph Audio ZRT custom-made tower speakers. They are a two-way design using exclusively Scan-Speak Revelator drivers, which are to my ears the sweetest dynamic drivers to base a platform off.

Subwoofers: Monolith M-15v2 and M-12v2, located to eliminate nulls in any listening position. Tuned using Multi-Sub Optimizer and REW.

Atmos speakers: four RSL C34e mkii's in the ceiling, mounting inside dynamat enclosures

Amplifier: Yamaha MX-A5200 11-channel amplifier

Receiver (running as a pre-pro): Denon AVR-X4700H

DSP: two MiniDSP DDRC-88D's running Dirac, tuned by myself using Dirac and REW

TV: LG 77" CX

Primary sources: Nvidia Shield Pro, running Plex client connecting to a Synology NAS running Plex server. I rip all my music and Blu Rays to this device for when I want to enjoy uncompressed reference material. Most of the time though I am watching or listening to streamed content.

The sound quality is superb with drivers like the Scans, but the real party trick is the tuning result from the MiniDSP units. It may not be the loudest system I've ever heard, but it's definitely the most reference theater-like.

We all work within a range and budget that works for us and it comes down to what works and sounds good to you. I dont have a peace of equipment that I have bought except for the Hafler amp I paid $25 for. Everything i have came from an old electronic shop that would scrap un-repaired equipment. I would cherry pick the best of the scrapped units and pull parts from others to cobble together working amps, speakers ect.

I've got a patchwork setup comprised mostly of stuff I picked up used, but that I am quite happy with. The Marantz is the only thing I bought new.

Onix Rocket RS1000, RSC200, Emotiva ERD-1, ED A7S-450, Marantz AV7005, Boston Acoustic A7200, Oppo BDP-105D, Dual 1219.

I have Pioneer towers for the front, with a matching center channel.
Bose 201s for the rears.
I had a Polk 10" subwoofer, but it died sometime in the last year; the towers and Bose actually manage to keep up with bass duties pretty well.
They're all being powered by a Denon AVR-790.
Going on ~11 years now and only the subwoofer died on me, so I'm pretty thankful there.

Bought a BOSE complete system, ran about $2500, definitely worth it for movies, it's also low key, doesn't take much space due to now huge tower speakers
