Question about side mirrors

Is the difference between 230i and m240i wing side mirrors purely aesthetic?

Also, I'm trying to google search if the 230i has the ability to auto open/close side mirrors when you go near/leave the vehicle. Thank you...

Own 230i. Don't have an answer for your first question, but can confirm that mirrors automatically fold/unfold when you getting closer/further from the car. But I believe that you need to have comfort access feature added to your build to have it (not 100% sure tho).

Does your complex have an access gate? The mirror can be coded to open those too.

To be clear I'm answering his follow-up question about the homelink rear view mirror. Is that what you're wondering about?

The homelink mirror can easily be programmed to open any access gate for which you have a remote

Our complex does have an access gate, but it doesn't use a remote- it reads a small barcode sticker provided by the complex (like a toll-tag I suppose).

reading the 2022 manual, I believe I found it (interesting wording lol)

Ah, kind of a bummer in this case then. I don't believe you can remove it from the build though. Just for resale value I think it would be more than worth it to keep it in anyway. I would be turned off from buying a car without it

Good point, thank you. To be honest I am going to lease (yeah I'm crazy) but $200 is change compared to the overall msrp I suppose.
