How to put car on jack stands with only scissor jack

Hi!

I wonder where can I put jack stands if I use scissor jack to jack up my car?
I know that there are 4 dedicated jacking points for jack stands but of course I cannot use them when I use scissor jack. My idea is to jack up rear of the vehicle and then put jack stands on the front jacking point. All I want to do is to jack up front of the car because I want to do oil change.
Are there any other places where can I put those jack stands?
Floor jack would solve this problem but unfortunately I don't have any..

You can't, you shouldn't, and it's going to end in a disaster if you try doing this.

Buy a floor jack.

Buy a proper jack, ramps, and stands. I use ramps for oil. Quick and easy.

Not to hijack, but any quality stands you recommend? I have some blue Duralasts in the attic but as I understand, they're just not safe to use…

I have two sets of Duralast jack stands and haven't had an issue, what are your weight rating?

OP, it is always best to use a floor jack to raise the car because typical scissor jacks are not particularly stable and are prone to collapse. I own a low profile floor jack, jack stands and a set of ramps and try to use them in pairs for safety reasons.

I think it might be doable but my worry is that you won't be able to lift the car high enough to fit the stand.

But hey you can try, when I used to only have one jack that didn't fit in front, I jacked up the rear sides one at a time and placed a jack stand up front. It works.

I've also been running jack stands in the style of those V style Duralast for the past 5 years with no issues. I use a a style with a locking pin which provides a bit more of peace of mind but I admit I'm always worried the sheet metal welds let go one day and it just splits open. But I do believe that's an irrational fear and that's probably impossible if the welds look good upon inspection before use and I don't exceed the weight limit.

Well, I do think you can use a scissor lift safely if you do it right. I have an electrically powered scissor lift that runs of the 12v cigarette lighter power. I can activate it without having to get under the car while its doing its business. Need some small ramps to get front end up high enough to get started, though.

1. Drive car onto 4 inch ramps.
2. Place anti-roll chocks behind rear wheels; parking brake ON
3. Place scissor lift under front jack point, center of car, between engine and oil access panel.
4. Activate lift.
5. Place ESCO strands on left/right side. Car now safely supported
6. Remove scissor lift.
7. Remove underside splash guard.
8. Go crazy.

I can get one end up pretty easily, but just gave up trying to get both up at the same time. Just can't get a jack under the front or rear when the opposite end is up. One of the reasons I gave up on doing trans fluid change.

For the wagon, it is so low I need to use crank jack to start one side up a little, then slide the regular floor jack under the central support. Works fine, but an extra step.

Love these. Total overkill but you can have the car two feet off the ground and solid as a rock.

Just get a couple of pieces of 2x6 or 2x8 about a foot long to drive up on. This will raise the car enough to get your jack under it. I do it all the time when I'm too lazy to walk all the way to the shed in the back yard to get the ramps.( keep some blocks beneath the deck at the end of the driveway) If one level of lumber isn't enough just stack a couple but stagger the leading edges back to mimic a ramp. I suggest 2x8s if your going to stack them.

To your point on being too lazy to walk to the shed to get your ramps…..this is what I screwed together out of scrap 2x8 treated limber. It literally sits in the flower bed behind a bush when I'm not using it. I use it to get the car up just enough to slide my lift under the central jack point before letting the car rest on a set of ESCO floor jacks.

Exactly! Mine are 10ft from the end of the driveway under the deck. The shed is about 65ft away and down a steep bank. I use the blocks way more than the ramps.

I think they're the 3 ton ones, but I'll double check. Could be the 1.5 ones as well.

Doing the alarm retrofit and need to remove the left rear wheel. Figured I should jack up the rear using the rear diff jack location and put it on jack stands…

I know inflation sucks and all.. but what does HF floor jack cost these days? They are safe and effective. It can't be worth your life - scissor jacks = the widow maker. I can't imagine owning a car without having at least that one cheap and basic tool.
