Ordered my 2023 M240i...can the dealer raise the price later?

First time ordering a car. I found a dealer with an allocation (week 40), confirmed the selling price of my specs with SA via email, placed order & have a production number.

No deposit was required (or even mentioned). Everything was done via email. SA gave me the Vehicle Inquiry Report with my name (last name only) & production number. At the bottom of the VIR it says "Total Suggested Price".

Is this good enough to "lock in" that price so the dealer can't try to increase it later? Do I need something with an actual signature on it?

Ask for the bill of sale and both parties sign it. My dealer did this for me, locked in at MSRP

one thing to keep in mind is that this means you can't get it under MSRP later.

The only discount that you can count on is a purchasing program, like Employee S-Plan, College Graduate, or the VIP program. These programs only save you a few hundred dollars though. I got a discount through the VIP program (which is the best discount available) and it only saved me $500 out of the $1,500 maximum finance incentive.

Never say never, but it is extremely unlikely that they will sell an M240 for under MSRP. There is simply too much demand and too little supply. Even though consumer spending is weakening, there is such a backlog with car production that it will take time for cars like the M240 to sit on dealer lots. I have a buddy who ordered a Volkswagen ID.4 this time last year and he isn't expecting to receive it until the holidays.

Military / USAA discount is 1500 if you bring your own financing or pay cash.

I believe it drops to 500 if you're financing thru BMW.

I don't know, I was getting $750 off MSRP but I ended up having them add that to the trade value since I was trading in a car when I ordered it. If you're not selling them a car I could see it being harder to get a discount.

A couple hundred bucks of a discount doesn't matter much. I'd rather lock in at MSRP than wait forever for delivery (5 months in my case) and then they say "yeah, we'd like $5K over MSRP". I'm completely fine paying MSRP.

When buying

When I talked to sales to buy..he said not much in discounts these days. I said I bought a X3 last year and he said oh you will get loyalty discount. After discussions and sales pitch and question and answer and order process he gave me the price sheet. I said" and I get loyalty $500 ? He looked at it and said nope they did away with that !
Car companies don't have to discount a dime these days. We are lined up for our turn to buy the next car coming off the assembly line. How did they get this power in their business has me baffled.

I have a ‘22 in BG, had it since last Friday night… I’ve already had 3 people stop me to talk about it. One guy yesterday driving in an older V8 Mercedes’ pulled up next to me, while driving, and told me to roll my window down just to tell me “that car is nasty”. They are definitely still rare at this point

Strange…I got the loyalty discount on paperwork drawn up 2 1/2 weeks ago, for a car I'm picking up tomorrow.

It’s there, through BMW Financial, $500. Honestly its nice to have but you’ll likely do better with interest rates at a credit union so net-net it’s a wash as far as what your payment would be.

I provided the "proof of coverage" insurance document listing our 2022 X3 to the sales advisor.

Did you have to do BMW financing? My SA says BMW isn't honoring Loyalty Discount

I'll be more than happy to pay MSRP in this market

I've sent 2 emails to the SA (he's the sales manager) asking for a written agreement outlining the price I'll be paying upon delivery. He was super responsive up until placing the order, but now...radio silence for 4 days. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow.

Definitely making me a little nervous, but hopefully I'm just being paranoid.

It's strange because I don't think I've ever bought or leased a BMW when there hasn't been some sort of loyalty cash but I'm in the same situation. I guess I'll find out when the car actually gets built and delivered.

Didn't "have to" but was already doing BMW financing since we were within my 4mo rate lock by a day or so when they did the paperwork.

Checking on bmwusa.com now, though, it does look like they've narrowed the cars they're offering loyalty cash on, possibly only for leases. And the 2-series doesn't seem to be included.
