M badge on side of car
What option/package determines whether you get the cute little M badge on the side of car? I see some with, some without, regardless if 230i or m240...

It's not on the U.S. cars.

LOL, 2 more dark clouds descend. Maybe some of you don't fully appreciate the machine you just spent a lot of money on, but I sure appreciate mine. I have been THRILLED the last 2 days to be driving it! Maybe BMW should have put "M Lite" on the badge, however, they chose to put "M" on it. They built the car, not you or me. I won't argue with their opinion. Looks like some of you are afraid of "offending" full "M" owners. I am not.

If they were as crass as you suggest, they'd put "M" on everything they sell, but they don't. They use "M" to signify anything from "sportier and faster" to "race car". I have no problem with that. I understand the G42 m240i isn't built for the track. It's a street car, that has great performance. Good enough to earn an "m240i"...not M2, M3, M4 etc. This thread was started by azuki, who just asked why some cars had the badge, and some didn't. Someone else even mentioned where they can be purchased. Then I posted that I thought they were cool. I just never understand why certain people have an uncontrollable desire to go all Debbie-Downer on what was otherwise a positive thread. Do we really need to know how much you hate the badge? I don't think we do. In fact, after getting this off my chest, I can truly say, I now give zero fcks that you, or anyone else, "hates the badge". Maybe the European m240i owners will remove their cars' side badge out of some neurotic faux "embarrassment"! You and the other side-badge-haters will be thrilled!! |

I think it makes sense when the M logo is on the M performance parts that are included on the M240, such as the brakes. But the badge on the fenders/door-sills/door cards doesn't make sense, IMO.
And no, I don't care about pissing off full "M" owners, I couldn't care less. I am happy we got the M side mirrors. I think the car should have it's own identity and not try to over-advertise itself as something it's not. Something like a new M-performance style of badging would be cool. Edit: Nobody is getting Debbie-Downer, it's just some don't want it and are happy without it. Why can't that be ok? |

It's awesome how we all have different perspectives!!!
IMO, its a nice small unobtrusive detail that showcases the lovely M colors. I love palette colors~ Oh wow..I just noticed. The non-US versions dont have that orange reflector??? |

Explanation of the M badge: In Germany, the M badge only indicates that visible M components are installed in the body (M package, e.g. front apron, side skirts, spoiler, etc.). You can see this well if you e.g. compares a 320i with the M-package equipment feature to a 320i without this package. In addition to the M in the badge, M vehicles also have the associated model designation (M2, M2 competition, M3, M3 competition, M5, etc.)

The car mostly performs like an M car and BMW made it, not me. I love the car and love the badging. I wouldn't be adding more, but I don't see in any way why this isn't an M car. Sure drives like one in most ways and puts a smile on my face. Life's too short for all you naysayers to be whining about something so dumb. It's a badge. It can't hurt you...

I'm fine with the missing 'M' horsepower given the price, assuming each is fully loaded, the 240 is 50%/60% of the MSRP, let alone potential M markups on top of that? It's a lot of car for a daily given the price.

The B58 is built by M GmbH so….it is an M engine. They engineered the B58 and S58.
