F8x CS vs. G80 Comp

A little background on my 'M' story: In 2014 I purchased my first M-car; a 2011 E90 M3 ZCP (6MT). The perfect car. Traded that in a couple years into ownership as I needed a better vehicle for work. Fast forward to early last year, bought a new off-the-floor G80C. Have been extremely happy with this car and have had a blast driving it and modifying it.

So, I completely skipped the F8x generation, and something is drawing me to the old CS, sedan or coupe. Maybe this is just a case of "grass is greener"?

Would love some feedback from anyone that made the move from an F8x CS to a new G8x. I'm aware of the 'tech' differences and power differences, and this could be looked at as a potential downgrade.

Not a G80 Comp but a G82 by a reputable member for sure

Here's another similar thread: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1876831

I've had a 2009 e90 m3, 2016 m3 comp, 2019 m4 cs, and now a 2022 comp xdrive m3.

honestly, if you're skipping the F chassis, the only things you're missing out on imo are the DCT and slightly lighter weight. Everything else is an improvement. the dct for that matter isn't so much the performance, but most people complain about the feel (you can partially take care of that with a xhp tune), and in terms of weight, unless you're really able to exploit the limits of the car, I don't know how much you'd notice day to day.

I had 3 F8x CS (and a few other F8x lol), and I sorta miss them compared to me G82Cx. Honestly, I'm not crazy with the G8x styling, and the F8xs felt less refined in a good way.

BTW, I wish we would have struck that deal on your wheels Haha…

I did a write up. I ended up keeping the CS. Since then, my brother has gotten the g80 and I've spent a lot of time in it and position hasn't changed.

So I had a chance to spend some private one on one time last night with bro's g80. We got to know each other on a personal basis. 😊 Went out at 10 pm and traffic was right for about 2 hour runs. The car definitely feels more capable, especially at really high speed. Feels more grown up and luxury, very m5ish vibes. As a daily, it's really nice. Absorbs road like butter especially in comfort mode. For everyday driving, it's a much better experience for sure. I jumped from my Cs after doing some runs so it was back to back. At first, it felt more insulating, more like luxury mini m5, and I definitely felt a little lag on Full tilt shifting compared to the dct. Really wish they did the dct on the g80. It would have been perfect. at about an hour in, got used to it and wasn't as noticable. It's not as raw feeling as the f80. F80 feels like a go-kart almost compared to g80. Sound was also a little different especially to my CS which has like no insulation at all. 😊 More natural sounding in the CS. But then again, wind noise at 120+ more noticeable too. So there's a double edge to that. I still like the organic sound of the CS more, especially at or near redline.

But g80 is still very fun especially after getting assimilated to it. Saturday night had a bunch of nice cars out. Way more than usual, at least those that wanted to play. I'm sure they enjoyed the fat ass views. 😁 If I wasn't burned out from doing all those runs earlier, I probably would have stayed out another hour.

It's definitely still very much fun to drive hard. I think the limit on f80 being more noticeable, you can feel being on the edge more, makes the adrenaline shot more immediate, but the g80 is not lacking in that once you are used to it. I think the CS is more engaging to drive hard, especially the organic sound and noises it makes and the feel of the dct, but on the downside, you do lose the daily driveability. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any issues dailying my CS, but the g80 is more refined experience, especially on a relaxed, chill driving basis

If you like the more exciting feel of the CS you should drive a Giulia Quadrifoglio. It has much more of a emotional experience steering is better than both F80 and G80. So is the exhaust note.

It soaks up the bumps better in normal mode and feels like an exotic car in race mode. 8 speed feels much more DCT like than the G80.

Yeah. Would love to give the Alfa a proper go. Maybe I'll visit a CarMax in the near future. I hear they do 24 hour test drives. I kidd, kinda, but, what if I like it too much😊 But yes, it's on my list. Our ///M group club ( my close group of friends) have 2 e90 m3's in it with all the proper mods. From an experience and sound, it's also one of the best. Nothing like a screaming V8 at 8k redline. And the engine breaking, just wow. I can probably drive with no brakes most of the time with that much engine braking.

To add to that post, in case I didn't already, at the absolute limit where you are threading the needle between control and slip, I'd rather be in the G8X. The chassis is stiffer, the handling more responsive, and the steer by throttle more accessible with traction control completely off even with X-Drive in RWD mode. The F80 M3 CS, is twitchier at the limit, by a small margin, and slightly less controllable compared to the G8X RWD and AWD. Will you feel this on the highway or street driving? Probably not. In the canyons? You have to really be pushing it to beyond safe levels. I'm talking about truly at-the-limit driving.
