I’ve always loved the Macan, as a fun little SUV/CUV and I been wanting one as a daily along side the M3.

I don’t want a base, at minimum an S or above.. GTS would be awesome but I’m fine with an S also.

I want to know from others who have owned them or DO own them, their experience with it, honest reliability, what years to avoid (if any) or what years/miles are safest bet or what to look for.

Does not need to be brand new as I’m not going to buy a new one - I don’t mind used but I usually go for lowest mileage I can depending on the year of course.

I know 2019+ has the different tail lights, screen size etc.

But I’m just wanting honest opinions on if there is any specific years to avoid and if it’s over XX,XXX miles to just avoid etc.

I have a Macan GTS, fantastic daily driver. It's not a 911 but it's very comfortable, the air suspension is great, and it does everything you'd want a DD to do other than go 0-60 in 3 seconds.

I see you're in Las Vegas and very coincidentally I am also in Las Vegas and putting mine up for sale today because my 392 Wrangler will be here in about two weeks. The car has 72k miles but looks and drives like brand new, everything up to date, and no sales tax for private party sales here. Under CPO warranty until the end of this month, just had the car checked out to make sure nothing needs to be addressed before the warranty ends. I'll shoot you a PM if you want to see it and take it for a spin.

I had a new 2016 Macan S for 5 years. Absolute joy to drive. The air suspension was great and excellent handling when having some fun. One problem in the 5 years I owned it which happened after the expiration of warranty, it and that was a less than 1k fix. I wanted something larger and would have bought a new e-hybrid Cayenne except for the price and ev range compared to my current 45e. I would advise getting a newer one with some warranty remaining. Porsches, like BMW's - can get very costly to repair major items. Good luck with your search.

Oh and if you’re looking at used make sure the timing chair cover isn’t leaking oil. Very common and very expensive repair, $10k at a dealer since engine has to be removed. Mine had it taken care of under warranty already. Many for sale haven’t. I did a PPI on a macan turbo a few years ago and they found it leaking so that killed the deal.

I was looking at Macans but ended up with a Cayenne. I've only had it for less than a year so not much to say. One thing I can say though is there is definitely a Porsche tax. Dealer wanted like $500 for an oil change. I'm no mechanic, but considering it's the same turbo 3 liter in so many Audis and even VWs I find it hard to believe it's actually worth $500.

Ultimately had an indy shop do it for just under $300. However considering the oil change on my 6.7 liter F350 is less than half that... seems overpriced to me.

Lots to keep in mind.

Not worried so much about maintenance stuff after owning M cars but more so not knowing much of the engines and reliability factors of the Macan S/GTS variants.
Or what years to avoid or are best to get, which I’m hoping for more info on that.

Both 2.9 and 3.0 V6 variants seem reliable based on reading the Cayenne forum at rennlist. I am not a fan of 90 degree V6s and hot vee turbos but VW seems to have executed this engine fairly well.

The PDK transmission gives me pause but owners seem to be OK with it.

Body and chassis seem solid. Macan is on my radar to replace the X3 in a couple of years.

Next gen Macan is allegedly electric-only. FYI.

Been looking at one as well to replace the X5 when the time comes, trouble is the interior seems smaller than the equivalent X3 which is a worry especially if you have kids

I own a 997 so am aware of the tax. Yeah the Macan is a great driver but small.

My 2017 GTS had timing chain cover leak, Indy shop contacted Porsche and they said they don't reccomend pulling the engine any more. The bolts holding the cover are aluminum (?) so the new fix is to replace the bolts with new stronger ones. My experience anyway......

Aluminum screws are believable - MB uses them on the cylinder head front covers that carry the cam solenoids.

Only had a Macan base when my 718 was in for service but it was a pleasure to drive. The handling is second to none and puts anything else in its class to shame. The base engine could def use more power but in reality it has more than enough for street driving. Of course the pdk transmission is fantastic and gets the revs up quickly.

Well my options I'm probably going to be looking at is a 2019+ Macan S/GTS (Better screen, interior and light changes, engine changes) OR a 2020+ X3 M40i (382hp B58 variant), which I love them. My dad had one and I loved driving it.

He replaced it with a 21' X3M comp and I really love that but out of my comfort zone price wise atm between my 22' M3 comp and my wifes 22 M240i coupe & my current 19' Alfa Stelvio Ti daily (which would get sold for the replacement), I don't want to get too crazy on the daily.
The Alfa is fun, unique, handles amazing for its 50/50 weight balance etc.. but it isn't quite ENOUGH for what I want.

It has a small backseat, mostly for kids. Do you just want to ride higher? If not, then a Panamera instead maybe?

Or maybe squeeze into a Cayenne.

No kids, no plans of kids.
I like sporty and fun to drive, smaller SUV’s/CUV’s.

Between my M3 and my wife’s M240i we don’t really have a utility type car for carrying anything of size or whatever the case may be.
I mean I have my Alfa Stelvio now but it’s still not just quite what I want as a daily. The driving feel is OK but the way the transmission is, interior feel isn’t bad but not what I prefer. I’ve driven a Macan S/GTS and loved the interiors, feel of the car as a whole and how it handles etc.
Same for the X3 M40i.

Definitely don’t need a Panamera.
Cayenne I like as well but I feel they’re too big for what I want day to day.

Why not an Alfa Stelvio Quad if the regular one isn't enough? That's way more power than a Macan. The Macan is a better car for cruising in comfort, the Quad will always be pushing you to floor it.

I do love the Stelvio QF but the prices and all I’ve been reading about them, the Ferrari engine in them having some issues or could etc.. I’d go for a 2019+ one but with low miles they’re still 70k+ and that’s just a tad above where I want to be atm. But my mind can change on that also.

Plus I’m not necessarily needing a 505 HP SUV daily, I just want to be in the low to upper 300’s with a great interior, styling and feel, day to day comfort or enjoyment.
And I can always build on that from there with a tune if I wanted to.

A Macan, as cool as they are, isn't going to carry much of anything. A panamera, with it's hatch, and especially with seats folded down, will swallow a lot more...it's just way bigger car and the Macan is pretty tiny.

We have a guy that shows up in a Macan Turbo S for autocross and it's damn impressive. It's similar to the Tesla thing, where the turning isn't great, but it can point to point with so much acceleration that it more than makes up for it. It's not crappy at turning either, just not maita-like obviously.

My thing is I don’t need another sedan like car.

I have my 22’ M3 Comp which is now my toy/baby, that’s modified and not even done yet with what I want to do.

Which is why I want something different, hence the Macan or X3 M40i. Which would replace my Alfa Stelvio

Lot's of discussion about the Macan gearbox. VAG sourced but tuned by Porsche to interact with the rest of the car. Best slushbox I've ever owned, it's so integrated into the overall behavior of the Macan.
