Checking oil level - 2007 328i sedan

Just happened this week. When I check the oil level, the clock is spinning and before it displays the oil level, the display goes back to normal display (like you're not checking oil level). It won't make a difference if the engine cold or hot.

This will always happen if the transmission is in anything other than Park (for auto trans). If you are driving, try inquiring the oil level, let it disappear, then check again in 5 minutes and you should have a reading.

My auto shows me readings in park.
Sometimes it doesn’t show them until after a few tries.

If the engine's cold-ish it may time out before you get a reading. Get it good and hot and it should work. Park or drive, doesn't matter.

there's nothing wrong. you haven't let the engine warm up or driven on a steady enough surface for it to get a reading.
