How does speed limit assistance work?
I have a 22 M240 with only the Premium Package and Parking Assist, no ACC and I never use cruise control. I am new to BMW and can't find much detailed info on this feature.
What does the Speed Limit Assistance actually do if not using cruise control? Can the Speed Limit Warning be used to warn if you are _ mph over the posted speed limit? How does this differ from excess speed? Thanks

When you press the button on the steering wheel, it sets a speed limit at your current speed.
Lets say that if you were traveling in fast traffic that fluctuates speed, and you didn't want to exceed 80mph, you can use the speed limit assistance button to set a speed limit at 80mph. When set, the car will not allow you to inadvertently drive faster than 80mph, but it also will not disengage if you drive slower than 80mph. This is actually a really nice feature since you do not have to cancel and reset your speed via cruise control. The feature can be overridden at anytime by either pressing the button again (to cancel) or by going full throttle. Once you start using it, the feature will start to feel more intuitive. |

Yeah, it works without cruise. Or maybe you can think of it as a different mode. You control the throttle but it makes it hard to go above the set speed. I think if you slam the gas down it will disengage.

Yes it will definitely disengage especially if you fully throttle it, I tested it cause I was hoping it was gonna be like an artificial limiter, but it disengages pretty quickly

It also has a feature that will suggest a new limit based on road sign information.
If you have limiter set at 70 mph and drive into a 40 mph zone you press the Set button and the limiter will reduce to the sign information. Somewhere in the settings you can add +/- mph so it would suggest 42 mph if you have it set that way. |
